Mike in Cumberland

erik g peterson posted a photo:

[19/52]

An old favourite of mine; this is one of the photos I made for my final gallery show for photo school. It's part of a 9 photo installation, with 3 of them printed big - 48x36ish (all similar to this, but at different places along this feature), 5 of them as 8x10's (macro bike and trail details) and one large panorama (tree trunks surrounded by swirling mist) at the very top. This one has always stood out as my favourite from the series but I've never published it.

Many students in my class fretted about the images for their show and spent months creating ideas, props, lighting diagrams etc for them. They spent days in the studio shooting and many sleepless nights editing afterwards. I however, wandered a couple hundred yards into the Cumberland forest with Mike one day (only a few days before submission deadline, of course) with nothing more than a bike, ladder, camera and a few basic ideas. After sessioning this woodwork for about 45 minutes and a short editing session, I was done. There's a lot to be said for the 'no plan plan!'
