I woke up early, still dark outside. Jumped in the car and started driving out of town. No big expectations, just observed the forest, the town how it wakes up.
Suddenly I arrived to this lake, where fog was flying over the water.

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse in Portand ME. This was the first stop on our fall vacation in New England. I was lucky with the weather, we got there just before the rain started, so I had the chance to photogtraph the lighthouse in sunlight, but interesting clouds on the sky at the same time.

Last summer at a nearby lake. Really good to look at this photo now, when all these leaves already gone under the water. 5 months to go before we see green again - makes you really appreciate summertime :)

The inside of Hanger One at NASA Ames field. Amazing structure - 200 feet tall and covers 8 acres land.
Few years ago I lived within couple miles distance from the NASA airfield. Summertime they hosted an air-show and on that day the main hanger was open for the public. The floor was all exhibition space, so this photo is just above their heads. I took this one shot, handheld, on negative film - years later it looks like it was worth the effort.
Yesterday I cleaned up this old scan.

A many years old negative scan. The photo was taken from the hill top, just as you cross the Golden Gate.
The fog was moving very fast, sometimes covering the entire bridge. I shot 10 frames quickly and this one came out best.

A nearby church in the autumn sunset. I realized that this weekend is my last chance to capture the 2009 fall colors in my neighbourhood. Saturday was foggy, gloomy. I went out, took some random shots just to get inspiration. Overall yesterday, the scenery failed to inspire me. This morning with the early sunlight I chose a different direction, and went back to this often visited place. The morning light was coming from the right side of the photo, and it was too harsh on the building. Went back once more, just before sunset, that time the light worked for the composition.

Mount Rainier Panorama

Panorama photo created from 5 negative scans.
It was quite an experiment, start with 100 megapixels data, the full size image after the merge and crop is roughly 50 megapixels. It did challenge my computer's power.
For Flickr I reduced the size to 2500 pixels width.
You really need to view it in large to get into some details.

Delicate Texture of Fresh Snow

Fresh snow has a special atmosphere. The way it gently covers rooftops, trees, and the ground. You silently walk in deep snow in an early hour - no other footsteps, no sounds. Everything sleeps. Soon, the fresh snow will melt, then refreeze, it will form a protective shield on the ground. But in these first moments you experience the soft, weightless snow, the powder that gives way to your steps with no resistance.

Many years old 35mm negative scan. It is actually two photos, I blended the two sides.

I chose this title because I distinctly remember that an hour before leaving home for this photo opportunity, I looked up the fireworks photo techniques on the internet and one advise was talking about F/8 ... Not sure about the rest but I did get at least this one right :)

November 4 - First Snow in Singapore

Winter came very early this year. A gloomy, foggy, dark morning in Singapore today. The air is chilly, winds high. Last night's snowfall covers the city - everything's under a deep white blanket except for the busiest highways, like ECP, PIE and CTE. The Singapore river and Marina bay - the new sweetwater reservoir - is under shiny, thick ice. Changi Airport all termainals are closed down indefinitely, flights are routed to the nearby KL that was not impacted by the severe cold front.
Many people just wake up and it is an understatement that they are shocked as they look out their windows. Will the snow last til Christmas? One can only hope.
