Bantul Jawa

This rickety bamboo bridge cost the local village around 150$ USD to build (a considerable sum for humble farmers).
They told me the first time it was finished they returned the next day to find nearly the whole bridge had been stolen.
Bantul is around 20 minutes south of Yogyakarta on the way to Parangtritis beach.
The area is made up of rural farmers with rice paddies and water buffalo.
It was also the epicentre of the recent earthquake which decimated many towns and villages.

This man is a village elder skinning the carcass of a recently butchered goat.
He makes a small slit with a cut throat razor on the hoof then peel the skin of the body which is then cut up and given out in the community.
This is a holy day celebrated in across all muslim countries.
ritual slaughter followed by feasting and prayer.

This old man was visiting the town of Litang in the far west of Szechuan province China.
He is presumably a nomadic yak herder who roams the plains of the tibetan plateau living in a yurt, drinking yak butter tea and living a tough frugal life.
he was actually quite a smiley guy and i asked if i could take his photo.
he happily agreed but for some reason dropped his smile.

we had left andrew behind on a skating mission to QLD as he had an exam
to finish a masters degree in finance..
he came to meet up the following weekend and tried to compress a week of skating into 2 days.
by then my knees felt they had been smashed with a builders hammer.
jock busted his wrist learning to skate vert in the gnarliest pit bowl taking the sketchiest line possible.
then after thrashing around 12 foot trannies, gibbo jumped off his deck on a tiny transition and snapped his leg in 2 places.
this was about 2 weeks after the event and
he is sozzled off his bonce on the prescription painkiller endone. aka hobo heroin.
needless to say his leg was a total fucking mess for ages.

he did indeed skate till his bones broke.
we met up in hong kong this year and had another thrash.
i think i busted one of my ribs on the mini ramp.

run for the hills, run for your life.
