The lake that we visited had large clusters of these lovely swamp azalea. They are quite fragrant and remind me of the scent of lilies.

This female (or perhaps another) has been visiting the feeder all day long. I don't know where the boys wandered off to since they didn't show up to chase her away.

The forest floor is waking up, several of these toadstool trillums were found, this one to bloom soon.

This should not be happening~~as a result of unusually warm weather some plants are thinking spring. Little to they know tonight they will freeze. As a result there will be problems with things blooming when they should.

Mistletoe isn't a tree or shrub....but instead is a parasite that grows on trees. The green clumps in the tree above are all bunches of it.

There's a large freshwater pearl farm not far from here~I've never been to it. Maybe I'll put it on my list of things to see in the new year.

On this side a deep pool of stagnant water~on the far side a man made waterfall. I haven't found photos of what this complex looked like before it was partially destroyed~I would assume that the far side had the same containment structure at one time.

Columbia Dam on the Duck River, Columbia, TN. The dam and reservoir project was started in 1973. An environmental study in 1977 brought things to a halt~the presence of several endangered species were found in the Duck..plus lack of support for projects of this kind led to prevention of the completion of this project.

I've done a bit of fishing here a few years ago~~and was totally amazed as I watched anglers pull up huge striped bass right in this area~~the fish were a good 2-3 feet long, I have no idea of what they weighed.
