I am a different person.

I mean we all change as we grow older. Our habits, our likes and dislikes, the things we tolerate and our tastes. But what I mean is that living in a foreign country has changed me.

I have always been a pretty confident person (minus some awkward teen years), but living in a foreign place where I don't speak the language, understand the customs, have a support network, you find the empty spaces in yourself and you fill them with extra courage to tackle the unknown.

I am no longer a dreamy optimist with visions of living in Europe like in the movies. I have spent hours filling in forms, sprouting grey hairs, chewing nails to the quick worrying about visas, insurance, taxes. Arguing in broken English and German for our fate, standing my ground, and building my business. The idea of the girl on a moped with fresh baked bread and scarf around her neck has turned into a girl with a bike who developed a wheat allergy and doesn't really like scarves (except in winter as long as they are not itchy).

My path has been filled with amazing adventures, very difficult disappointments, and a lot of perseverance. I am still an optimist, but I now live with a heavy dose of reality. Like I said this path has made me a different person.

ODC - Take a risk - SP out in the park on a Saturday with all the walkers and dogs! I talked to so many people. I have to remember that people are not judging me when I do this out in public. Most people actually think it is cool and want to ask about what I am doing...

Chitwan was full of flora and fauna and lots of opportunities to see it all. I went out on my last morning for some bird watching (nerd alert! I was totally alone with the guide because no one in the lodge wanted to wake up at the crack of dawn) and was able to watch the sun rise over the jungle. It was amazing, there was a mist over the river, the birds were everywhere and of course the gigantic spiders were amazing!

Om encloses the dimensions of body, word and spirit. Often in life we experience disturbances and negative emotions which draw us away from our true nature. The OM gives us the possibility to transform this into pureness. OM also can be translated as the essence of all enlightened forms.

MANI means Jewel that stands for love and compassion (these two make everything possible.)

PADME is Lotus, the flower that grows on the water and that shows everything exactly as it is; a vision in reality. The flower of wisdom and understanding (insight).

HUM represents the spirit of enlightenment. The effect is stabilization and purifying of the spirit.

The sound of the monks chanting still reverberates in my soul. I feel myself lifting when I think back on it...

I saved this one for day 55 for the continuity :) Another fine example of the wood work in Bhaktapur. This is from the Royal Palace, aka the Palace of 55 Windows...After a few years of renovation it is now partially open for visitors.

There are three famous cities in Nepalese history. One of them is Bhaktapur because it had the best woodworkers for 100s of miles. The craft is still highly regarded today and remnants of work from the past 400 years can be seen in every nook and cranny of the old town.

One of the most splendid examples of mastery is the peacock window or Mhaykhā Jhyā (म्हयखाझ्याः). It is an example of Newar craftsmanship that distinguishes Nepalese architecture from other parts of Asia.
