Just a quick walk down in the harbour just below where I live, a 5min walk. I had just an hour before an appointment was due, but it was enough to get a few shots of this descent outbreak.

Not easy to mix city lights with aurora. But this outbreak was rather strong, and I blended down the lower part of the picture to preserve details.

The bridge is connecting Tromsø (which is an island) to the mainland. Down in the middle is the famous Arctic Cathedral, and up to the right on the mountain is the cable car restaurant bringing folks up to enjoy the view over Tromsø.

Canon 5D Mark II + Samyang 14mm @ f/2.8 - 4s - ISO3200

I like the Samyang 14mm more and more. Some correction has to be done in post processing, but thats an easy task.

Shot also this tonight oct 12th at Kattfjordeidet, facing towards the city of Tromsø. Not much aurora here, but the light polution from cities can sometimes be beautiful.

Very very dark still without snow and the moon. But I still prefer to use a short exposure and focus on getting the structure in the aurora rather than using a long exposure to light up the environmental surroundings.

A little tight on the crop here with the 24mm, but still managed to get a decent composition I believe. Main goal still to display a vivid and real aurora borealis.

Shot in Ersfjord (Ersfjordbotn) close to Tromsø (Norway).

Not often you experience a moon (not full, but long exposure makes it appear so) and sunset completed by the Northern Lights and absolutely silence!

Absolutely fantastic conditions.

Taken with my old (now sold) Canon 40D and a Canon EF-S 10-22 @ 10mm (16mm@35mm full frame), f/3.5, 13s, ISO800.
