Le temple Kiyomizu à Kyoto (Japon). Selon la légende, quiconque survit à un saut depuis la terrasse du temple (13 mètres) voit ses voeux se réaliser. cette pratique est interdite de nos jours mais 234 personnes auraient tenté l'expérience avec un taux de survie de plus de 85%. Mais l'histoire ne dit pas le pourcentage de ceux qui ont vu leurs souhaits se réaliser ;)

À 8h16, le 6 août 1945, les Américains lâchent au dessus de la ville la bombe atomique recouverte de signatures et d'injures. L'explosion à 600 mètres du sol, équivalent à celle de 15.000 tonnes de TNT, rase instantanément la ville. 75.000 personnes sont tuées sur le coup: il ne resta aucune trace des habitants situés à moins de 500 mètres du lieu de l'explosion. Dans les semaines qui suivent, plus de 50.000 autres meurent. Le nombre total de morts reste imprécis; il est de l'ordre de 250.000.
