This is another shot rom The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. I actually had to clone Skylar out of this one! (Sorry, Skylar!) This was the photo I was working on when my screen went black. I was so relieved after finally getting my Mac out of the shop last night (eight days later) that my most recent work (including this photo) had not been lost ... because this was a lot of work!

I'm really enjoying the illustrated feeling of this one. I was very happy with it once I saw it again. :)

My trip to Golden Gate Park with Skylar really yielded a lot of fun shots! This one here is actually, I think, the first "architectural" shot that I've ever taken!

I was really glad to have brought my 17-85mm (which I've rarely used) as I really felt this angle required a wide-angle lens. In fact, I had so much fun playing with shots at 17mm that it's really created a desire for a super wide angle lens. Any suggestions? I was considering the Sigma 10-20mm.

Another shot from my day at Golden Gate Park with Skylar. This is the entrance to the Japanese Tea Garden, and I believe it may be the first "building" or structure shot I've ever posted on Flickr!

What fun Sky and I had together! And this pagoda is just beautiful! I had a lot of fun processing it and then couldn't decide between black & white or color ... so I posted both! Please see the color version in first comments.

Happy Monday, everyone! :)

While Skylar and I were on the 101 driving through San Francisco on our way to Golden Gate Park the weather, sky, and light were kind of amazing. It's been raining pretty-much non-stop in Northern California lately, and it had been raining hard that day. But then, as we drove, the rain stopped, and the sun started to peek through the storm clouds, and it bathed everything in a beautiful glow!

Out the window of our car and over the tops of buildings I could see this lovely hill in the distance, which was being hit by the light in such a pretty way, and the green of it looked so fresh from all the rain, and I thought, "Oh! I wish I had a zoom lens and a curb and I could pull over and capture that!" Alas, I had neither. In desperation I put my camera to the window and fired off three shots without really looking.

Well, as you can see in the first comment, what I got wasn't too wonderful ... but I thought that maybe I could make something wonderful from it. A little zoom, a little crop, some textures, and some major processing and "painting" in Photoshop and I am actually quite happy with the result! It captures the mood and feeling of what I saw better than I could have hoped for.

I hope you enjoy it! :)

Illustrated Pagoda in Color

Mahnie posted a photo:

Explore #445 | large on black

Another shot from my day at Golden Gate Park with Skylar. This is the entrance to the Japanese Tea Garden, and I believe it may be the first "building" or structure shot I've ever posted on Flickr!

What fun Sky and I had together! And this pagoda is just beautiful! I had a lot of fun processing it and then couldn't decide between color or black & white ... so I posted both! Please see the black & white version in first comments.

Happy Monday, everyone! :)
