Little experimentation with Silver Efex Pro....usually prefer color but this is one place that looks good with or without color, in any season, any time of the day...don't you agree???

Forecast for the next three days is rain & drear, much like what we experienced last spring when we visited Yellowstone....big difference though, because even in the mountains, gloomy, dreary weather can produce some great photo opps. This one was taken at the Upper Terrace in Mammoth Hot Springs; always a favorite spot to visit, as it is ever changing and always captivating :-)

Photographed this last spring right outside Cooke City, MT which is where we typically stay when we visit Yellowstone...even in late May, snow is not uncommon in the higher elevations (Cooke City sits at 7608 ft.). Fortunately for us, we don't mind a bit of wintery weather, and from the looks of this week's forecast, looks like they are still getting snow out that way. Only 9 more days & a wake up :-)

Morning Erupts

One of my all time favorite spots to photograph in the Tetons....every day offers something a little bit different than the day before, and each season offers a different perspective. This one was shot last May, as all the spring colors were emerging, and on this particular morning, the clouds were just hanging over Mt. Moran, giving it an appearance of erupting. Getting up early definitely has its advantages at times :-)

I Was Here First

Gotta love these little guys, but also have to admit that he scared the crap out of me...LOL!!!! We were walking along the Taggart Lake trail, nearing the lake and the small bridge that goes across it, and when I stepped onto the bridge, this little marmot popped up along the side of the bridge as if to say, "look lady, I was here first." I managed to capture a few shots before he ran and hid while we crossed the bridge. Hoping to make it back to this location in a few weeks as well as many new ones, provided that the weather cooperates :-)

Sense of Renewal

Go ahead, have a seat, you know you want to :-) Hard to resist a view like that and we had it all to ourselves last year. The park service was working on the North Jenny Lake Road, so to get to this spot, you had to hike along the south trail from the Jenny Lake Ranger Station. When we arrived at this spot, we were so excited that not another person was around; it was like having our own little Teton paradise. Looking forward to seeing it again this year....only 32 days to go :-) Have a great Tuesday, and thanks for all your visits and comments!!!! Busy week, so I will catch up with everyone as I can.

In 2013 The iconic T. A. Moulton barn celebrates it 100th birthday.

Started out of necessity to shelter his horses against the harsh winters of Western Wyoming and Jackson Hole, Thomas Alma Moulton didn’t know he was building a future landmark to a nation and mecca for photographers to come to. He and his two sons, Clark and Harley worked the land to provide for their families. They worked together along with their neighbors to carve out a meager existence along what was known as Mormon Row. Started in 1913, it took many years for the barn to be in its current form. First built as a square box, later on the peak and one lean to side was added. Later, when more room was needed, the other lean to side was added. This was a functional working barn. It was never intended to be the most photographed barn in America. source: www.themoultonbarn.com

Back to the Southwest...along the Pa'rus Trail which runs parallel to the Virgin River in Zion National Park; a beautiful place to explore where the compositions are endless. 35 days to go until we return to YNP/Tetons; yay!!!! Thought I'd take a break from our Southwest trip to share a few spring images. Unfortunately it doesn't look like spring around here right now, so this one's from the archives. Desert Solitaire

And this just happens to be a small recreation area where you can explore the trails by any of those means. Red Cliffs Recreation area is only a short distance from St. George, Utah, and it's a great spot to visit if you don't like crowds. In fact, we only came across a few people the entire time we were there. Always a treat to come across water in the desert :-)
