Hopefully some of my fellow flickerittes can get over there before these wither. I was on a car trip with family so I had no time to linger and take more photographs, or come back for the light at sunset, but I'd love to see others take advantage of the flower bounty over there this year.

This was taken along Highway 10 just north of where the road forks into N. Thorp Highway and Highway 10.

Up at Artists Point it looks like there won't be any wild flowers this year because the snow is still 10 feet deep in places. Kids built a snow ramp and were snowboarding. I'm not sure what was more entertaining, the world class air they were catching off their homemade ramp, or the views.

If you ever go to Arches National Park / Moab Utah, you've GOT to take this drive, it's spectacular.

Grand Canyon III

During Thanksgiving 2010 I was lucky enough to spend a week in and around the Grand Canyon. I came home, downloaded the images, posted a few and basically forgot them. Then a few days ago I found myself at home, sick with an evil summer cold from hell that had landed in my lungs and with nothing to do but cough and lay around, so I decided to start processing some of the thousands of images that I've taken but never bothered to do anything with.

I have to say, I've been to the Grand Canyon several times but my last trip in November 2010 was the first time I'd been there during "winter". The light was drop dead gorgeous during my entire stay and even though it snowed every day, the clouds always parted between snow showers and the sun lite up the canyon as if it were on fire.

Grand Canyon has a lot of different moods, and I suppose if I were someone who wasn't really into nature and who had the misfortune of visiting the canyon during mid-summer during mid-day, I can imagine going home thinking it was just a big blah looking jaggged hole in the ground that looked hot and miserable. I've seen it that way too.

But come to the canyon in winter, when the light is slanted and casts it's glowing rays horizontally upon the canyon walls. When the sky is filled with black, grey and white rolling clouds, and snow flies like wisps of smoke through the air, and you'll see what I did. A landscape that is so overwhelmingly beautiful that it will take your breath away.
