Window Of Opportunity

greyridge posted a photo:

I got so lucky this morning it is untrue. The BBC weather said it would be clearer skies further North, so I decided to go to Hauxley. The drive up did not fill me with confidence given it was drizzling / mainly cloud covered all the way up.

When I got there, I discovered I'd misread the tide tables (confused low with high) and so none of the beach I wanted to shoot was exposed. Fortunately, I'd done a grey ramble with Mark, Jen and Simon a while back so knew a spot a bit further up which was good for high tide.

Then, just as I got set up, the promised window in the cloud opened up to give me 45 minutes of ever-changing colour and some great rock formations to work with.

That's my luck used up for the month I reckon!

EOS 50D / Sigma 10-20mm / Hitech 0.6 Reverse Grad

P.S. For those of you in the north east, yes, that was this morning's sunrise...honest....I know it's hard to believe from the weather everyone got further south!

Another from wednesday's mid week ramble with a bunch of my fellow North East togs. A great time was had by all...

This one is from a bit earlier in the night (hence the slightly warmer tones) using the lovely glistening wet sand to pick up on the colours. Just needed a conveniently placed pedestrian really, but there wasn't one around!

Little bit of perspective adjustment done in Photoshop to deal with the lopsided lampposts the Sigma 10-20mm causes when shooting anything towards the edge of frame. Other than that, pretty much as shot.

Somehow, I seem to be the last one to upload anything from last night's fantastic ramble with amble in amble, despite the fact that we only got back at 11:30pm last night and I've been at work all day!

A cracking evening was had by all as the skies (for the first time in a long time) played ball and gave us a really nice sea of reds and oranges. Done using my standard sunset settings of switching to shade white balance to bring out the warmer end of the spectrum.

This was taken towards the end of the evening from on top of the pier. Of course the "muppet of the evening" award goes to me, as I discovered everything I'd taken was in ISO400 due to lack of familiarity with the new 50D. Doh!!

Good to see everyone though...

Another from Sunday morning's cracking sunrise, showcasing one of my favourite type of clouds - the random ones which form polka dot patterns across the sky.

Taken well after the sun had risen, whilst it was still diffused behind a bank of cloud, using a 6 stop to give a nice glassy water effect.

Some cracking rock formations around here at high tide...definitely one for a return visit.

Am off to a mate's wedding reception tonight and have a massive backlog of pictures to go through from this morning's fab sunrise, so I thought I better put up my effort from last night's mini-ramble.

Despite grey clouds and growing clouds of midges, a great time was had by all - especially in the pub afterwards!

Pretty much straight out of camera (not much point adjusting since there wasn't much light to work with in the first place). Hitech 1.2 ND used for long exposure and to bring out whatever colour there was in the sky.
