Wat Phanan Choeng - Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Wat Phanan Choeng was founded in 1325 A.D, about 26 years before the establishment of Ayutthaya as the Kingdoms capital of Siam. Its main building enshrines a huge, seated Buddha image, that is 14.25 meters wide and 19 meters high, made of mortar, primed with black lacquer and covered with gold leaf. In 1407 the temple was visited by Admiral Zheng He of Ming Dynasty and bestowed gifts upon the temple in a great ceremony. According to legend, red tears flowed from the Buddha eyes when the Burmese attack Ayutthaya in 1767 and Wat Phanan Choeng was the only temple never been attacked or deserted by Burmese troops.

It was a large crowd among people and it wasn't easy at all to get through the crowd to reach this gate as it was the only entrance, people keep on pushing and you keep forcing yourself to get inside this large wooden entry gate carved with beautiful floral designs.

The 118-year-old chariot bearing an image of Lord Muruga began it's journey. The chariot procession will pass through several major roads in George Town which from Penang Street, Chulia Street, Ghaut Chulia street, Victoria Street, Prangin Road Ghaut, C.Y. Choy Road, Magazine Road, Datuk Keramat Road, Irving Road, Jalan Utama and Waterfall Road on its route, is expected to reach Nattukotai Chettiar Temple before mid-nite.

This ordination hall contains one seated Buddha images assumed to have been built during the Sukhothai period around 1357. The image was covered with stucco, lacquered and gilt, probably to hide their value from the Burmese invaders in 1767. In 1963 during a cleaning process, the stucco came off and the metal became visible. The image in the middle is an Ayutthaya stucco image covered with gold. This prayer hall has a very beautiful gold gilded Chinese mural paintings with flora motifs as wallpapers.

Wat Phra Phutthabat / Phra Buddhabat was located 150 kilometers above northern Bangkok. It's one of Thailand's most sacred pilgrimages due to the natural Buddha footprint enshrined there. Around the temple compound there's few others Buddhist Shrines and one of them is a chinese Buddhist shrine which what my mum looking for.

Express train from Butterworth to Bangkok is an overnight train with fully aircond. The seat is folderable when come to evening the seat will turned into big bed on lower deck and single bed on upper deck excellent, and extremely cheap, just at around RM112 including a comfy sleeper with fresh clean sheets.

Thai International Express train from Butterworth to Bangkok a.k.a City of angels a.k.a Venice of the east. There's only two coaches trains from Butterworth depart at 2.20pm and once reached Haadyai, it will join with the rest coaches becoming a long train to Bangkok arrive BKK at 11.00am.

The 30.2 meter tall statue sheltered by 82.7 meters height pavillion which equivalent to 20-storey building and a three-tier pagoda roof supported by 16 granite pillars embellished with ornate carvings.

The festivity begin on very early eve of Thaipusam day as the Silver Chariot carries the image of Lord Muruga left the Chettiar Temple in Penang Street to the Nattukkottai Chettiar Temple at Waterfall Road. The procession starts at early dawn morning and ends before mid night of eve. Along the procession the crowds will smash coconuts and make offerings of incense, fruits, flowers, and money. A similar procession will be carried out from Waterfall Temple back to Penang Street on the day after Thaipusam.
