I've been a fan of Thomas Allen's since I first saw his pulp fiction cut-outs several years ago, so, when my Father-in-Law came home with several boxes full of paperbacks - many of them Harlequin Romances and similar - I saw some potential. This one's the first of several shots I have planned.

I really love the idea of destroying art to create art, and I'm also interested in playing with scale in these. I've given a lot of thought to building on the idea, so it's more homage than outright theft - I've considered setting them on fire and photographing them while they burn, or including items like reading glasses or a glass of wine. Right now, though, my idea is simply to include an item from the "real world" that relates to the theme (which is why that flower's in there).

I normally keep the long side of my flickr uploads to 1800 pixels, but I'm pretty happy with the sharpness on this one (only took 200+ tries), so I'm uploading the original size for the pixel peepers.

Visited the MFAH yesterday, and saw my photo in several places, including a 48 foot banner on the side of the building.
