We have friends staying with us at the moment, and they wanted to see more of the North Coast, so we travelled to Waterfoot in the Glens of Antrim and stopped at the Glenariff Waterfalls. It is a beautiful spot and we had a fabulous day. At the foot of the largest waterfall this leaf sat perched on the fence, where even a slight breeze would have lifted it over the fence and into the water below.

I love that someone has carved their name into the fence, although I'm not sure exactly what it says!

"A life without love in it is like a heap of ashes upon a deserted hearth." Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We decided to travel around some of the countryside that we usually don't venture into in search of some new locations and in particular some derelict buildings (am currently obsessed with them). We happened to find this house down an old lane, I can't express how eerie and melancholy it was being in it. Nearly everything was still in tact inside, from old letters to anniversary cards and tins of food. Looking around we found it belonged to an elderly couple called Arthur and Frances, it appears both of them passed away and the house has been left to go into disrepair. While I was inside I couldn't help but think of all the memories this little house must have captured...

I actually captured this over two months ago, but was unsure it fitted into my usual 'style', so it never again saw the light of day....until this evening. I was processing some images I took this morning and I saw this in my Lightroom library. I thought it might be interesting to share due to the myriad of little details, even though I don't think it's one of my better Project 52 images.

We passed this ruined house everyday on a mountain road into Donegal. It looked like it had been derelict for many years and at some point even housed cattle! We pulled up to it on our last day on holiday and I immediately noticed the statue sitting on the window ledge. It's of an angel and says "God Bless Our House", such a sad sight, given how badly the house was eroded.

The house and it's site are for sale, so I'm hoping someone restores it to it's former glory and another family enjoys the beautiful scenery that surrounds it.

"It was a somber place, haunted by old jokes and lost laughter." Malcolm Muggeridge
Looks much better on Black

I've been on holiday in Donegal for the past week and it's really invigorated my passion for Photography, which, since the death of my Aunt last month has evaporated slightly. We decided to travel to Sligo Folk Park for the day and found some unexpectedly marvellous photo opportunities! After walking around I saw a rusted train carriage hidden away and decided to explore, it didn't photograph as well as I thought, but I found this old, unused fairground ride, broken and overgrown close-by, along with some very old farm machinery, toys and even an old safe. I'll be sharing the rest of the images I captured over the next few weeks...

This is the first Black & White image I've uploaded in my Project 52, as I've never felt an image I've captured suited it before. However while processing this I immediately thought in mono it would really capture how sad and solemn this sight was. This is also my least processed image so far, it's been sharpened slightly and converted to mono and that's pretty much it.
Thanks so much for my eleventh EXPLORE! April 5, Highest #170

I trekked off this afternoon (in some gorgeous sunlight) to an old derelict Primary School, which had been closed a few years ago. It's been abandoned and severely vandalised and as I walked around the (rather burnt out) interior of the building, this window sill caught my eye. It was littered with stubbed out cigarettes, I'm not a smoker, but I found the textures so appealing.

There was so much to take, even after spending a few hours at the School, I couldn't take everything I wanted, as the light was fading. I'm planning a return in the next few weeks.
