The sky wavered in mood earlier today displaying an angsty mix of rage-puffed storm clouds and baby blues streaked by sunlight. It was the perfect backdrop for Bushwick's incredible array of street art murals that pepper the industrial urban landscape.

Spent an afternoon yesterday walking around Bay Ridge, Brooklyn while the temperatures dipped lower and lower (it's been a brisk springtime here in New York City). And as the sun crept closer to the horizon, I came across a tiny opening near an overpass, next to a parkway where this gorgeous, fairy tale scene appeared just around the bend.

Sometimes there is nothing than better than those types of moments.

When winter shifts into spring, the light shifts too.

Stark, short afternoons that end too abruptly morph into vivid, warm afternoons that linger until the sky relents.

This was taken on a stark, short afternoon that was only mildly flirting with spring a week or so ago before the city erupted into full-on springtime mode. This is one of my favorite parts of Chinatown: under the Manhattan Bridge.

Buckyball by Leo Villareal

Large-scale work by light installation artist Leo Villareal. The work's two nested geodesic spheres are comprised of 180 LED-tubes arranged in a series of pentagons and hexagons that contain thousands of individual pixels capable of displaying 16 million distinct colors. Controlled by custom software designed by the artist, the 30 foot tall illuminated sculpture animates Madison Square Park's natural landscape with dynamic, random light sequences of varied color, opacity, speed, and scale.

Zero-gravity couches, are placed at the base of the sculpture to allow viewers to gather and contemplate the artwork. The couches and sculptural aspects of the installation reference elements of the park and add a physical and temporal dimension to the viewer's multisensory experience of Buckyball.

I went for a little walk in the fog last night and ended up sitting on one of the zero-gravity couches in Madison Square Park (as mentioned above). This installation is quite a sight to behold and is very mesmerizing. The fog was quite thick last night as well as you can see through the light next to the tower in the background which is the MetLife Tower. Not a bad way to spend a foggy evening in New York City!

I love this view of Union Square Park looking towards the Empire State Building and the beautiful skyscrapers in midtown Manhattan. It's particularly gorgeous in the autumn when the trees change color before descending gracefully to the ground.

Shattered - After the Light Went Back On in the East Village

In hollow disbelief that there was actual light after 5 days without power, water and connection to the outside world in Lower Manhattan. The power was restored to the East Village (where I was here) on November 2, 2012, nearly 5 days after Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy hit NYC.

I got the call from Con Ed where I was uptown (trying to get a working connection) and immediately traveled back downtown where I walked through the East Village which was bathed in light back to my home on the Lower East Side. It was an emotional journey that night.
