I have photographed this house many times. One evening I was walking by and noticed that it looked even better at dusk.

I took this image on the way from work to the subway. I felt that this image would benefit from a strong verytical bias so I cropped it. I must confess that not one of the buildings in this image is what I would call great [or good] architecture. However, reflective glass allows nature create a mood with this ensemble. The reflections off of the glass on the building in the foreground are very painterly, especially when the image is viewed large.

This image is of Fort Edward in Windsor, Nova Scotia. It is a simple structure where the form is informed by its function. The overhanging second storey is to allow soldiers to fire at adversaries storming the fort through holes in the floor. Wood was abundant in British North America. The heavy timber construction was easier to work with than stone yet surprisingly resistant to fire.

I have posted images of this new school on my Flickr webpage before. This building is located in Toronto Canada. Kohn Shnier Architects designed this project for the Toronto District School Board.

Hanging Out

This was the garment district.... Fifteen years ago this building was full of garment companies, furriers, artist studios, and us. Now it is animation companies, marketing companies, publishers, softward companies, designers, and us. Forty years ago there were 2,000 people working here, all in the business of making "things".

The Perfect Beach House

What more does anyone need from a beach house. The simplicity and modesty are refreshing. Unlike so much contemporary resort architecture this house is not a piece of scenographic design.
