The Double Helix Spiral Bridge (DNA bridge) and skyline of Singapore's business center at Marina Bay.
Probably one of the most photographed places in Singapore.

Petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur during the evening, photographed from the bridge in KLCC park. From 1998-2004 these were the largest buildings on the globe and are still the largest twin-towers of the world. Being the landmark of Malaysia and the city of Kuala Lumpur, the surrounding of the buildings is littered with whistle blowing security personnel that prevent photographing the towers with large telephoto lenses and videography from tripod..

Vertorama of 2 brackets of 7 shots (0,5" - 30") at 13mm f/8 in landscape orientation using Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

- Exposure blending: EnfuseGUI
- Stitching: PTGui Pro 9.0
- Post Process: Photoshop CS5
- Plug-ins: Imagenomic Noiseware, Topaz Adjust, Nik Color Efex

Added a slight vignette to put focus at the center of the image.

Ogoh Ogoh - Pig Escape

Ogoh-ogoh, demonic statues made of bamboo and paper symbolizing negative elements or malevolent spirits. After the ogoh-ogoh have been paraded around the village, the Ngrupuk ritual takes place, which involves burning the ogoh-ogoh.

The main purpose of the making of Ogoh-ogoh is the purification of the natural environment of any spiritual pollutants emitted from the activities of living beings (especially humans). The forms of Ogoh-ogoh represent the Bhuta-Kala (Bhuta: eternal energy, Kala: eternal time), according to Hindu teachings. The imperceptible potentials of nature cannot be thoroughly explored by anyone. Philosophically, civilized men are required to manage the natural resources without any attempts to damage the environment itself. From Wikipedia

The day before the silent day Nyepi Ogoh Ogoh are displayed beside the road for local people and tourists before they get carried through the streets and participate in a processional competition.

This Ogoh was displayed in the middle of Sanur close to Hardy's supermarket.

Pura Goa Giri Putri - Nusa Penida

During a recent three day trip over Bali's sister island Nusa Penida, we visited the cave temple called "Pura Goa Giri Putra" at Karangsari. The Goa Giri Putra temple is one of the most important temples of Nusa Penida and many Balinese Hindu's visit this place during the Odalan anniversary at the Temple of Ped to get holy water from the natural spring deep inside this cave. The shrine in this (western) part of the cave shows the close relation with Chinese culture and the Hinduism of Bali.

For photography this temple offers a challenge and with the bright sunshine outside in contrast with the few light bulbs inside the cave, this is an outstanding situation to apply HDR. It put some pressure on my tonemapping skills and it took several tries to get it right..

Panorama created from two sets of 9 image brackets (Ev -4,-3,-2,-1,0,+1,+2,+3,+4). Merging and tonemapping of both brackets in Photomatix, Stitched to panorama with PTgui. Post processing in Photoshop CS3 (Noise reduction, Contrast, Color saturation, Sharpening)..

This was one of the most impressive views we had during our trip over the island of Nusa Penida last week. View from a hill top at Lombok at the other side of the swirly Lombok strait..

HDR panorama from 4 raw brackets of 5 files shot with the camera in portrait orientation. Merged to HDR and tonemapped in Photomatix, merged to panorama with Panorama factory V5. Noise reduction and colour adjustments during post-processing.

Desert Rose (Adenium obesum) after the rain

During our trip to Ubud last weekend and after we took shelter for a tropical rain-shower in a local restaurant, I found this flower at the side of the road..

Overall, I am pretty happy with this shot, composition wise and placing of the focus are ok I guess. However as I shot this photo at 1/1000, f/5.0, ISO1600, a little slower speed and smaller aperture would have been better for a bit more dof / sharpness (on the open flower) and a little less image noise during post processing.

Please let me know your thoughts and (constructive) criticism on this photo and the processing.

Processed raw file with ACR 6.0 (development and color noise reduction), Photoshop CS5 (luminance noise reduction with Noiseware, Nik ColorFX for slight contrast enhancement to bring up some details and the water drops).

Although I generally don't like the distortions by a fish-eye lens for normal photography, sometimes resulting shots can offer a nice effect..

Photography:
- Camera set to manual exposure, auto white balance (corrected in ACR), ISO200
- Sigma 8mm f/3.5 fish eye lens at f/8
- 5 Shot bracket; 1s, 2s, 4s, 8s, 15s handhold (just joking ;)

Processing:
- Exposure blended with EnfuseGui
- Photoshop CS5
- Topaz Adjust
- Adjustment layers for local corrections of saturation

During my recent trip to Bali's neighboring island Nusa Penida, we went to this place on the south of the island to shoot video of the sunset. Although the sunset was not spectacular, this place called "Pasih Wug" (Balinese for "Broken Beach") offered a good opportunity to take my camera out of my bag..

The legend about this place tells that there, long time ago, was a village on this place. It is believed that the people who lived in that village upset the gods in a way which resulted of his punishment by sinking the village into the ground..

HDR panorama from 4 sets of 5 bracket raw's (2x2 horizontal). Merged and tonemapped every set with Photomatix straight from the raw files. Stitched the resulting 4 images with PTGui and post-processed in Photoshop CS3.

After we finished our Sunday afternoon swim in the pool at "La Taverna" and the sun was setting, i had to get my camera out the bag to try to record the nice atmosphere in the restaurant..

HDR from 5 shot bracketed 12-bit raw's (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) in AdobeRGB colorspace. raw converted to tiff in Photoshop CS3, Merged and tonemapped with Photomatix. Photoshop workflow; bar workers blended in from +1 exposure, noise reduction, local colour correction, sharpening, conversion from AdobeRGB to sRGB..

Splashing waves at Nusa Lembongan

After a two day tour with TNC (The Nature Conservancy) and some government officials over Bali's sister island Nusa Penida for documentation of some beautiful spots on video, we stayed the last night on the small neighbouring island called Nusa Lembongan to shoot some video in the mangroves on the north of the island. With the water splashing up to my knees, i captured this shot of Lembongan's west coast viewed to the north. The hills in the far distance are on Bali..

Pseudo HDR from 1 14-bit raw file, tonemapped directly in Photomatix. Post processing consisting of Noiseware, local hue / saturation corrections, dodging and burning and a finishing touch of Topaz. Photo shot and processed in AdobeRGB colorspace and converted to sRGB for uploaded version..
