Taken at Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean, this was one of a collection of old mining equipment that is now rusting slowly away outside the entrance.

Taken inside Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean, this collection of old mining track was on display lower down one of the caverns. The red spot in the ceiling shows the ochre that was being mined from here.

The border of England and Wales has many castles, with Goodrich being built in the late 11th century; it was still in use up until the English Civil War in the mid 1600s, when it was destroyed by mortar fire.
Looking up inside the tiny keep (this shot is taken at 10mm) shows the limited space the family would have had to retreat to in times of attack.

The border of England and Wales has many castles, with Goodrich being built in the late 11th century; it was still in use up until the English Civil War in the mid 1600s, when it was destroyed by mortar fire.

A vaulted arch in the ruins of Tintern Abbey in South Wales, the result of Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries, which brought 400 years of monastic life to an abrupt end in the 1530s. I like the rotational symmetry and textures from this shot looking straight up underneath one of the remaining arches.

Unfortunately this image doesn't really convey the size of the structure, which is absolutely huge, especially when you consider its age.

Chepstow Castle's ancient doors

Chepstow Castle doors, the oldest castle doors in Europe, were built no later than the 1190s, and are now on display in the castle exhibition. Amazingly they were still hanging in situ until 1962.
