Nicolaus Copernicus (German: Nikolaus Kopernikus; Italian: Nicolò Copernico; Polish: Mikołaj Kopernik (19 February 1473 - 24 May 1543) was a Renaissance astronomer and the first person to formulate a comprehensive heliocentric cosmology which displaced the Earth from the center of the universe.
Copernicus was born in Thorn (now Torun) in Poland and this statue can be found in that city.

Wrocław (German: Breslau ; Czech: Vratislav) is situated on the River Oder (Polish: Odra), in Lower Silesia. It is the largest city in western Poland.

Wrocław was the historical capital of Silesia, and today is the capital of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Over the centuries, the city has been part of either Poland, Bohemia, Austria, Prussia, or Germany, and has been part of Poland since 1945 as a result of border changes after World War II. According to official figures for 2010, its population is 632,996, making it the fourth largest city in Poland.

Wrocław was one of the hosts of UEFA Euro 2012, and has been selected as a European Capital of Culture for 2016.

The Churches of Peace (Polish: Kościoły Pokoju, German: Friedenskirchen) in Jawor (German: Jauer) and Świdnica (German: Schweidnitz) in Silesia were named after the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 which permitted the Lutherans in the Roman Catholic parts of Silesia to build three Evangelical churches from wood, loam and straw outside the city walls, without steeples and church bells. The construction time was limited to one year. Since 2001, the two remaining churches are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Die evangelische Friedenskirche „Zum Heiligen Geist“ (polnisch Kościół Pokoju p.w. Świętego Ducha) in Jauer gehört zu den bedeutendsten Kirchenbauten in Schlesien. Sie befindet sich gemeinsam mit der Friedenskirche in Schweidnitz seit dem Jahre 2001 auf der Welterbe-Liste der UNESCO.

Zu den Beschlüssen des Westfälischen Friedens im Jahr 1648 gehörte die Erlaubnis für die schlesischen Protestanten, drei Friedenskirchen zu bauen: in Glogau, Jauer und Schweidnitz. Allerdings musste eine ganze Reihe von Bedingungen erfüllt werden: Steine und Ziegel waren als Baumaterial verboten, es durften nur Holz, Lehm und Stroh verwendet werden. Die Kirchen mit Türmen oder Glocken zu versehen war ebenfalls nicht gestattet. Als Standorte kamen nur unattraktive Plätze außerhalb der Stadtmauern in Frage. Die Gebäude mussten innerhalb eines Jahres fertiggestellt werden. Die Baukosten hatten die Gemeinden zu tragen.

Die Kirche in Jauer wurde in den Jahren 1654 bis 1655 nach einem Entwurf des Breslauer Architekten Albrecht von Saebisch (1610–1688) gebaut. Die Länge beträgt 43,5 m, die Breite 14 m, die Höhe 15,7 m, die Fläche ca. 1180 m². Die Kirche fasst ca. 5.500 Personen.

Toruń (German: Thorn) is an ancient city in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. Torun is one of the oldest cities in Poland. The medieval old town of Toruń is the birthplace of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.
In 1997 the medieval part of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 the Old Town in Toruń was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland.

The Castle in Malbork (Polish: Zamek w Malborku, German: Ordensburg Marienburg) is the largest castle in the world by surface area, and the largest brick building in Europe. It was built in Prussia by the Teutonic Knights, a German Roman Catholic religious order of crusaders, in a form of an Ordensburg fortress. The Order named it Marienburg (Mary's Castle). The town which grew around it was also named Marienburg.

The castle is a classic example of a medieval fortress, and on its completion in 1406 was the world's largest brick castle. UNESCO designated the "Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork" and its Museum as a World Heritage Site in December 1997.

The Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica, the largest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe, were built in the former Silesia in the mid-17th century, amid the religious strife that followed the Peace of Westphalia. Constrained by the physical and political conditions, the Churches of Peace bear testimony to the quest for religious freedom and are a rare expression of Lutheran ideology in an idiom generally associated with the Catholic Church.

Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Adalbert (Polish: Bazylika Archikatedralna Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Marii Panny i św. Wojciecha) is a Gothic cathedral in Gniezno, Poland. The Cathedral is known for its twelfth-century (ca. 1175), two-winged bronze doors decorated with scenes of martyrdom of St. Wojciech and a silver relic coffin of that saint. The coffin was made by Peter von der Rennen of pure silver in 1662 after the previous one (established in 1623 by King Sigismund III Vasa) was robbed by the Swedes in 1655, during the Deluge.
