So um, I've always wanted to take a photo like this, One of my favorite views on a road trip is watching the rows of pines whip by the window.

This is an HDR image (just trying this for the first time, not sure yet how to do it.)

I took this in Lafayette County, Fl. Go Hornets!
Just Words 1

Charlie the Cheeky Monkey posted a photo:

So I went downtown tonight... Sober. I left that way, too.

One of the things I have always wanted to photograph and never gotten around to is the Jim Sanborn (same guy who did Kryptos at Langley) light sculpture Caloosahatchee Manuscripts.

"Caloosahatchee Manuscripts consists of two bronze cylinders roughly ten feet tall with a pinpoint light source in their center. Using a water jet cutter, Sanborn incised letters into the bronze which are transferred to the façade, steps and sidewalks surrounding the art center at night.

The eastern drum contains the text of a story told by Maskoki Indian leader Tchikilli to James Oglethorpe about the migration of Native Americans into the lower southeast, including Georgia (where Oglethorpe had founded his colony) and Florida. The Seminoles, Miccosukee and Creek trace their ancestry to Tchikilli and his people, and the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center rests on the site of a settlement of Creek Indians that pre-dates the army fort which eventually gave birth to the city’s name.

The western drum is no less historic. Into that cylinder, Sanborn incised the Latin names of 500 botanicals that Thomas Edison tested in an effort to develop a local source of latex from which to make rubber in order to help out his friends Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone. Latex is produced by many flowering plants, including dandelions (it’s the milky substance that bleeds from the stem when you pick one), gardenias, goldenrod, wisteria and yucca."

All that was taken from this website:

www.artswfl.com/galleries/fort-myers-river-district/publi...

I'm happy with what I have here, but I'll go back with models one day.

If you like this shot look at the other one.

Midpoint

Charlie the Cheeky Monkey posted a photo:

What's with all the bridge photos? Well, I was in a more sober frame of mind last night and decided at around 10 to drive down to the Midpoint bridge in Fort Myers and try my hand at sober night photography. This is what came of it.

Not much different than the previous shots I have posted of the 41 bridge. And I was drunk while taking those. Hrm.

The Midpoint starts across the water at a lower height than the 41 bridge, so as you can see I was able to get some streaking head and tail lights. The issue here, for me, was that I could not get close enough to the base of the bridge. I had big plans. BIG PLANS.

I guess the moral of the story is when shooting bridges at night, you might as well drink some booze. It's not really going to hurt anything.

Oh and viewing on black is kinda nice.

I've been inspired by flickr photographers to go out at night and take some street photography. For a few nights now I have been thinking about the shots I wanted to take, working through the locations and imagining the steps to take to make it all happen. I was totally ready.

Unfortunately, I stopped at the Cigar Bar at 7, waiting for it to get dark. Two hours later, this is really all I have to show for my plans: an unsuspected shot of one of many drinks I had before, drunk as a skunk, I tried my hand at night photography.

So, lesson learned

This was taken at the mouth of one of many caves dotting the ridge in the park. My father used to come here with friends and wander around the caves. Now they have steel doors closing them off unless you are with a ranger on a guided tour.
Why must we protect idiots from themselves? Why not let them do what they want and thin out the herd?
I like this, I love the park. I hope you like it too.

Why did they tear it down?

Great song and I always sing it when driving the country roads around the springs in north Florida.

Hear it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UChaXhy26Fc

This was taken off a dirt road that ends at Royal Springs off CR 349 near Branford.

So this is my best effort when intoxicated. I know I could do better but still, the next day, I like it. I got the idea from one of .brianday's photos, which is so much better, that this tribute would only seem to mock him if he knew, so I will not tag him in it. If he finds it, so be it. He is way awesome though, and you all should check his work out if you haven't. It may make you want to give up photography though.

While sitting in the grass out in Ft. Thomas, I witnessed this bear trying to eat a guy.

"holy shit" I said, raising my camera.

Sadly, the bear caught the guy and molested him before leaving his lifeless carcass on the porch of an abandoned brick house, right next to an old convertible Impala

At least I got the shot.
