Fetch me that watermelon, farm boy...

fortheloveofFiona posted a photo:

This is my before and after of my first attempt at the pastel effect in Picnik. Admittedly, it's not great, but I'm working on it. I'll have it done soon!!

BB has it badddd for this teenage boy running a farm stand by us. She had me turn around one day so she could meet him and I ended up giving her money so she could buy a watermelon I didn't need from him. So, we used to call him watermelon boy. But....since she's had me stop a bunch of times since then and still hasn't asked for his number, we've taken to calling him farm boy. If anyone has ever seen The Princess Bride (My all-time favorite movie), you would definitely understand the movie reference. But for those who haven't, Buttercup is in love with a farm boy named Westley. When she wants to tell him she loves him, she says "Fetch me that pitcher, farm boy" and he replies "As you wish" which means I love you. So our joke is that his nickname is farm boy and she says "fetch me that watermelon, farm boy". It's all in good fun. She no longer gets embarrased about it. She just thinks it's funny. The best part is, she can quote almost as many lines from that movie as I can...hehehe

Just a fun pic of BB sporting her new haircut. Yeah, she went shorter again! I did the "lipstick" as an experiment to see if I could make it look good and it turned out alright. Adjustable threshold makes it all better in the end.

This was taken quite a while ago. It honestly feels like eons at this point, even though it was this spring. Belanah loves to go "treasure hunting" and go look at old abandoned houses. The treasure is the great photos you can take while you are there. There's really nothing there of value, but they make for a fantastic photo op.

I love how this pic of Fi turned out. She stands in this same place every day and watches for her bus...when I took this, I didn't realize at first that I was also capturing her reflection. When I went back and looked at my pics I saw that many of them had her reflection, looking back at her. I really liked this one, hope you do too.

I chose this photo as my best photo of 2010...I had a really hard time choosing, I had several that I really liked, but I loved the haunting beauty of Fi and her beautiful eyes, but this photo also has so much emotion. Definitely my fave this year. My sister has this photo hanging on her wall as art. Makes me proud!!

Not the best title...again...but..I guess an OK one. Kind of a strange phrase. Basically, you can't see the answer when it's right in front of you, you focus too much on the tiny details that you don't see the big picture...I think...I guess I was right...I googled it and that's what it means... Anyway...this picture was taken in the woods behind my mom's house...it's really beautiful there...when I was a kid, I used to go back in there..now you have to watch out for traps. I thought Belanah looked beautiful here...somewhat mysterious...she has beautiful eyes, so I tend to emphasize them. A few layers this time...I liked the look..Hope you like it.

You know, I always do pics of my two youngest, especially Fiona, So today I decided to do my second oldest...Bristol. She's not a whole lot different than Fi in some ways. She has Asperger's disorder, but to look at her...you couldn't tell. She has finally "caught up" with her peers. She brought her GPA up from 0.33 to 3.75. That's not a typo either. I couldn't get the right help for her until she started high school. That is why her GPA was so low. Now she's a straight A student. I guess that's why I push so hard for parents to become their child's advocate. If you expect the school to always know what is good for your child, you are settling for mediocracy. They have so many children that need help, they can't know your child as well as you do. Maybe I'm overbearing, but I have worked so hard to help my children achieve their potential. Now my girls with autism (Fiona and Bristol) have a great start to their lives. Bristol wants to be an art teacher. I think that's great. I'm so proud of her. She has overcome so many obstacles.

FeFi is finally learning to use some imagination. She and I play every night before bed. You see, she reads voraciously. This past weekend, she read 4 books that are around 200 pages each and then read several smaller books. Now she's on the last book in a series that she's been reading. I pretend that her favorite "stufty" animals are reading her books. She used to tell me that "They can't read, they're just stufty animals" and get agitated when I said they could. Now, for two nights, she's pretended that her doll talked to me. This is such a huge learning leap for her. She's never tried to pretend with me, she's usually very literal. It's such a hard thing to teach an autistic person. I'm so thrilled right now. Since she was little, both me and her therapists have tried to teach her to use her imagination and now she did it!!!! She's done so well this year. First, she finally learns to dress herself (this is very recent too) and to not need a paraprofessional in class, and then she starts using her imagination. I couldn't be prouder right now.

Black eyeliner

fortheloveofFiona posted a photo:

A really lovely head shot of Belanah...I got into an argument with her father this weekend. I am her custodial parent..always have been. He's been out of the picture since she was 5 months old. Anyway, her stepmother decided that Belanah is an embarassment to her dad and their family because I allow her to wear eyeliner...black eyeliner. She told me that me allowing her to wear eyeliner is the same as her(the stepmother) pushing my daughter off the roof. She then said that people that wear black eyeliner end up pregnant and on drugs. Honestly...what the hell is this woman talking about? I modeled as a teenager and was doing runway shows when I was 14. Belanah is 13 and a half. I think she should be allowed to wear light tasteful makeup (she only uses eyeliner, mascara, and chapstick). Her father agreed with the stepmother and chose to give up seeing her anymore because I refuse to allow the stepmother around her. I gave him the option of visitation at my house (visitation is to my discretion according to my court papers) and he refused. Today, he called me and tried to tell me I had until tomorrow to give him the right to claim her on his taxes so I could get a bigger refund from him (he is over 13,000 behind in child support). I chose to refuse him, I consider it a bribe that he's trying to give me. I am reporting him to child support in the morning and letting them hear the message he sent me in a voice text. I am going to court again to have the judge look at my support order and hopefully issue the warrant for his arrest for non payment of child support. I want to make sure they hear the bribe, so that if he does claim her without my permission(and signature), they can prosecute him for that. Belanah says she's done with him. I don't blame her. Can you believe this whole thing started over black eyeliner?

Fee Fie Fiddly Eye-O...I want to go to the video show.....

fortheloveofFiona posted a photo:

Soooo this is Fiona's superhero nickname from one of my "famous" bedtime stories. I make them up off the top of my head at the last minute and they are always different, they always have a funny town name, a villian with a sidekick (or as we call it...an evil assissticant), someone calling out for a hero, Fiona being the hero with a different name everytime, she has a different mode of transportation every time (always extremely off the wall and really funny), and a secret weapon that saves the day along with her magic trick that puts everything in the world back to the way it should be (and wards off nightmares). Her magic trick is always the same... She has to wiggle her nose, wiggle her ears, wiggle her butt, wiggle her right foot, wiggle her left foot, do the hokey pokey and turn herself around and then BAM everything is all better. It works every time.

Sometime, I need to record our stories. They're really good. A little unusual, but in a funny way. Her name in the title was from a story set in the village of Rhymetown. I had to rhyme the entire bedtime story off the top of my head. It was fun and had a moral and I even got in the end. That was her favorite one, next to the "say it don't spray it one". Don't ask, you really had to be there to appreciate that one..hehe.

I had to save this as a before and after, I couldn't resist. I'm going to save the full image too and the original, but I had to do this. It scared the bejesus out of Belanah today. She said :" Why do you do things like this mom....you know it scares the crap out of me. It's not funny you know>" Sooooo, I guess it was effective. It was the way Fi posed this one that made me want to go scary, just the way I felt. Hope you like it. Don't mean to scare anyone too much.
