Must have looked a bit comical as I ran from the beach to the estuary and back several times with my tripod and camera as I couldn't decide which view I liked the most and conditions changed all the time.

Rare pano from me shot with the with the 70-200mm lens when doing a surf check early one morning 2 weeks ago. Got some good low cloud quite regularly due to the humid North East Winds and approaching weather front

Overhang

Merry Christmas Everyone and all the best for 2013!

Tairua's Mt Paku in the background took on a more active volcanic look with the overhanging cloud and pop of light at sunset. The mountain is an extinct volcano and has magnificent views over Tairua, Pauanui and surrounding landscape - well worth the short walk to the top.

Summer outlook

I've been on holiday in Tairua, on NZ's Coromandel Peninsula for the past 9 days odd so I haven't been around flickr much. Here's an intense sunset from one of the first nights looking back down the harbour.

The clouds reach out

Well it's been a long time between shoots but I got a small window of time yesterday and decided to head out regardless of conditions. Whilst I was hoping for more moody \ rain style weather the cloud did come right for a time at the end of the day. You never know what you will get here (Whatipu) but always worth the effort, even to just clear your head.

The "backyard"

Many of us refer to the Waitemata Harbour / Hauraki Gulf as Auckland's "backyard" - certainly true if have any sort or water craft - the sea is so accessible here. - now I just need to win the lottery and get a boat :-)

This is one of the older Americas cup yachts you can pay to have a sail on. The people on board clearly had a ball and I was lucky enough to have a crack at shooting this (well trying) from a chase boat - new experience for me . The sky behaved itself too which was handy :-)

The bow of this yacht was over the stern of the boat we were in a few times which made it pretty exciting (see shot 2)

Lesson's learn't - have two cameras (with wide angle and std zoom on) as very difficult to change lenses, polariser was essential and I need one that copes with ultra wide lens a bit better - mine is too dark also knocking 2 stops off, keeping a straight horizon was fun and most of these are cropped slightly due to some angles, I need to be more creative but just hanging on and getting some shots was enough to keep me occupied first time out:-), I used shutter priority set between 1/500 and 1/640 on the camera so the images wouldn't be blurred.

Into the dark and light

Number two in the series of shots from last Saturdays foggy morning at Western Springs. The trees took on an eerie form and fortunately the light popped through on my second walk by of this spot.
Not sure the fog wanted to leave here so got quite a few pics.

No crazy bird attacks taking this one either--phew :-) :-)

Intensity

I think I have cured myself of sunset shots when on holiday :-) , but we did get a number of intense ones and it seemed a shame to let this go by. This night being the most intense, to a point where I de-saturaed the pic to try and keep some naturalness.

It was taken on the same night as "Ethereal" posted several shots ago- just looking the other way

71sec midday Long exposure with the 10 Stop filter and 3 Stop Grad Filter (had to do at least a couple of these whilst away :-)

Certainly one of those locations where there is plenty to explore

Pic taken on Saturday out at Muriwai, missed surfing here due to a cold and drat it was good surf. Always good to at least get some images though. The best light was about 15 mins before sunset then the horizon cloud took away the sun.

Out and about with the 10 Stop filter on Sunday at Orakei. Tried to squeeze quite a lot in here so bit of distortion on the edges that didn’t really work when corrected. It was windy as, so fun trying to get the right compo and a pic that wasn't shaken to bits :-)
