Finally getting to share some photos taken with my new OM-4Ti body. I am enjoying it so far, though I have not had the chance to use all the fabulous meter technology. Spot metering is quite interesting, though, and so is auto-exposure.

Hope everyone is well! I am shooting less these days just to let my creative energy relax for a while.

PS - The title is hommage to 50 years of Bond this year. Not a huge fan (was when I was younger), but I love "A View to a Kill" because it stars Grace Jones. Did you know I love Grace Jones? Why didn't she sing the title track? Oh well, Duran Duran is okay, too! //

These leaves grow right outside our front door. We have a wilderness yard. I'm sure some people drive by and think it looks awful, but who cares? One of the first mornings back home after returning from our Summer holiday, was a little damp and sunny at once. I decided to shoot more rain/sun sparkles. Can't get enough of that, can we?

Notice my new camera? An OM-4Ti body! I haven't used it much, but it seems really great. There are so many elements to it that it will take me a long while to really figure it out. //

I don't really think of time or the present as being fleeting. I don't think of life as being fleeting. I think it is really permanent, and it just transitions through a great series of cyclical changes. The grass hasn't vanished just because the season has changed, it just becomes something else. It will return in Spring, and even if it doesn't, something will use the place the grass made to grow its own roots.

This is another photo from the old tennis court I mentioned in an earlier photo. You can see how the old surface is being torn apart, even by these humble little plants! //

I just needed something serene on my Flickr for a while. I hope everyone else finds this calming. I feel like the world is in a bit of turmoil right now, and I want to provide a little rest here on my page.

I have no information about Rave 200 film. I got this very expired roll as a freebie when I bought my Trip 35 from a guy in southern Ontario. Probably a store brand? I actually really liked the tans it produced!

I thought I would do a little series tonight showing the plants growing from impossible spots in the rock-face. They seem to be able to find any tiny piece of dirt, and I always feel like I am in the process of watching the landscape slowly change. Today's rocks are tomorrow's sand.

I wonder how far down their roots go? //

Part of my short series tonight showing plants growing from tiny spaces in the rocks. This spot is fascinating because so many different things are growing here, grass, moss and some lichens. And if we counted all the organisms we can't see, I am sure it would be a surprisingly diverse ecosystem even though it isn't the size of a forest. //

Part of a short series showing plants growing in the tiny fissures in the rocks of Matthews Island. I don't know how they do it, but they seem to prosper with the tiniest allotment of resources. I know in other isolated environments animals become endemic to one spot. I wonder if in these tiny spaces if the microorganisms become endemic? What would it be like if your whole world was this small break in the rock? //

This fern is called a "Sensitive Fern" because it burns in cold weather. The first cold weather of Autumn caused the yellow color and the brown edges.

The shadows are from the large grasses towering over the little plant. //

Just a few pine needles, because I like them. I especially like the colors they turn in Autumn, and the shadows they get in bright sunlight. //

I am sure everyone knew that I could not resist Autumn grasses. These are always my favorites. Most of the stems are 2 meters tall. //

This clearly is for all my friends who love bokeh. I love when it rains and then gets very sunny. As we've discussed, the weather around the Great Lakes is highly variable. You seriously never know what will come next. It can literally rain one minute and be crystal clear the next. //

This is the typical Autumn red, though the leaves are a bit softer in shape than might be expected.

I definitely highly recommend this film, but you'll need to take it to a lab that knows what they're doing. Otherwise, you stand a good chance of getting some very odd results. None of the labs I used in Canada developed it properly. I am so thankful to be back at my home town lab! //

This goldenrod is growing in the middle of what was once a tennis court, and which is being slowly reclaimed by nature. Birch trees are here, as well as pines and these flowers. This is not far from where the net would've been. I love watching nature dissolve human creations. It makes me feel hopeful that if humans ever decided to be more responsible, that the earth will be more than willing to heal itself for us.

If anyone ever tries to blame goldenrod for their allergies, you can assure them that that is impossible. Apparently the pollen from goldenrod is so large and heavy that it cannot be picked up by the wind. //

Blue sky and grass, how could I resist? We should all know by now that this is a scene I cannot pass by without firing the shutter! I am amazed at the blue skies on this film. It was really surprising!

I don't spend a lot of time around the lighthouse on the island, but on one of my occasional trips, I found this tiny aspen growing literally out of the wall. How big can it possibly get? How deep do its roots go? Will it eventually be able to break the foundation and the rock?

I love that even in this tiny form, it still changes color for Autumn! //

Hello to all my Flickr friends (and anyone else who wants to be Flickr friends)! Sorry for my long absence, but I am back with plenty of photos to share with you now.

Ottawa is maybe the only (?) capital city in the world with a research farm in the middle of downtown. It is one of my favorite places to visit, with incredible flower gardens that stay open long into the evening.

And this is the first time I have ever pushed Fuji Reala. Why did Fuji discontinue this film? Craziness, I guess. //

I like to show leaves partly illuminated by the sun and part in shadow because then you get to really see the difference in color and texture depending on light. And those red veins of course make anything more beautiful!

We made it home from our trip to Quebec and Ottawa. I did not take many photos there, since the weather wasn't great, and I just also don't really feel like photography when I travel to a new place. I like to really be in a place for a long time, or visit a place often, and then I feel like I can finally find the unique things and unexplored corners there.

I did see an amazing art show of Van Gogh's "up-close" paintings, and a series of Japanese prints that inspired him. I never knew how much peace he found in the tiny details of nature. Maybe instead of stressing about the things I feel I can't photograph well, maybe I should just concentrate on the things I enjoy discovering in nature?
