What a beautiful night of shooting! I had been waiting for clouds to show up in LA for weeks just to get a little more drama in the sky and the wait really payed off! Such a fun night of shooting this place I love! LA

How this shot was made:
Canon 5d mkII, Canon 16-35mm f2.8 II
F11, ISO 320, 16mm, 8sec

5 Bracketed Exposures taken on location. Combined using the Merge to 32-bit HDR plugin, then adjusted in lightroom. Then taken into photo shop and enhanced using NIK Color Efex pro 4, Viveza, and Define to reach the final result.

Isn't it funny that I actually pray for clouds in LA? The weather is so great here getting clouds is actually a rare thing rather then the norm. Thank you LA for some amazing clouds last night!

How this shot was made:
Canon 5D mkII, Canon 16-35mm f2.8L II
f16, ISO 160, 20mm, 2:45 min

Shot was taken with a modified Coken Zpro Filter holder and a LEE Big Stopper 10stop ND Filter.
Processing in Lightroom, Photoshop. Plug-ins uses where Nik Color Efex Pro 4, Define 2, and Viveza 2.

Late evening take on an LA classic!

How it was done
F14, ISO 640 for 30sec Canon 5D mkII- 16-35mm F2.8L
Digital blending of several exposures. 1 Exposure for the buildings and sky. 2-3 Exposures to capture all the light trails combined onto one photo using "Lighten" layer blending. Exposures balanced back into one using layer masks. Final adjustments in Lightroom 4.

This was taken a while ago from a parking garage in the fashion district. Its kind of a random picture but there is something about the clouds behind the buildings that keep getting me to stare at it so I thought I would share it . I guess I'm just a sucker for some awesome clouds. :P

LA has been having some epic, I mean epic sunsets lately. I was so lucky to grab one the other day and man its probably the best one I have seen in a long time.

There was another epic sunset on Wednesday this week but I didn't have my camera with me. Sometimes you just have to live them rather then capture them I guess! :)

Cotton Candy Clouds

I took another wonderful shot of the JW Marriott the other day that I couldn't resist sharing. I just love the pink cotton candy clouds in the sky behind this beautiful hotel. I hardly ever see clouds like this in LA and they were just happening to light up just at the right time before going completely dark a few minutes later. Do you ever just feel blessed that you were there at the right time to see it? Crazy how cool that is!

Hollywood Bowl Overlook- Los Angeles

I went out to the Hollywood Bowl Overlook last night for the first time. We had amazingly puffy, thick clouds, which is pretty rare for LA hoping that we might get an amazing sunset. Unfortunately, knowing magical happened but I did manage to get a beautiful shot as the colors started to turn from day to night. I just love the mix of purples and blues in the sky of this shot. Made for a very wonderful night!

No HDR on this one! :)

Fountain With Love

Processing: This type of photo is extremely difficult to take. To expose correctly for the fountain you need to bracket to capture all the light. For this photo I used a combination of the -3 and +2 exposures using the LRenfuse plug-in in LR4. I'm not exactly sure what the plug-in does but my guess is that it takes the luminance values from each and combines them. Because the fountain's water moves as you bracket, using more then two exposures from the same image creates a lot of ghosting. So to get a clear combination I used the brightest and darkest of the two images only. -3 for the luminance of the fountain, and the +2 for the luminance of everything else. Basic raw processing after LRenfuse in LR4

Grand Park -LA

I had the chance to check out the new Grand Park the other night. Man what a beautiful place to hangout! There is a new starbucks in the middle right of this photo that I think might be a new hangout spot for me. With a view like this, how could you not!

The beautiful fountain changes color about every 15 minutes or so. From the time that I was there I saw, green, blue, red, purple, as well as several different shapes to the water from tall, full, and more laid back, like in this picture. Overall I give this new spot an A plus :)

We finally have some clouds in LA!!!! Its been wonderful! The other night I knew that there was going to be an epic sunset but the only place I could get to fast enough after work was Griffith park. Just as I arrived the sky started to go off the charts and I managed to grab some awesome shots. I can wait to post them over the next few days!

I was out shooting last night with my Nephew Seth Bricel www.flickr.com/photos/sethbricel/ and we had a blast! He hasn't been out shooting downtown much so I took him to one of my favorite areas around the Disney Concert Hall. In front of the LADWP The fountains are purple at the moment and it has been reflecting this amazing purple color on the building. It just looks awesome! I can't take full credit for this composition since some good friends actually shot something simular months ago but how could I not take a shot of this myself! :O) Its just awesome

I actually took this photo over a year ago, processed it and its just been sitting. I love the purple haze that we often get in LA as the sunsets. It always blows my mind
