Barcelona's golden fish sculpture, known as Peix, is one of many pieces of public art found in and around the city. The piece sits in the Port Olimpic at the base of a large skyscraper, the Hotel Arts, one of the tallest buildings in the city.
Renowned architect Frank O. Gehry was commissioned to build the piece for the 1992 Summer Olympics. It faces the sea and measures 35 by 54 meters. It is made of stone, steel, and glass. Its copper-coloured shiny metal plates sparkle in the sunshine and make the sculpture a real eye catcher.

After delivering Angela at the Picasso Museum, I headed for the photogenic Port Olimpic :-)
As the name suggests, Port Olimpic was built to coincide with the 1992 Olympic Games, and its appearance on the city landscape is perhaps the most notable of the building projects the sporting event left behind. What was once little more than a disused wasteland is a prime piece of real estate on the coast, and comfortably one of the most attractive areas of the city to visit, full of bars, restaurants, leisure facilities and modern sculptures.

La Parella (The Couple) by Lautaro Díaz Silva, 1998, located on Moll de la fusta in Port Vell.
Slightly abstracted yet perfectly conveying that intense intimacy born of long trust, these figures in bronze, finished in a greenish patina, depict a pair of older lovers observing the sea.

Friday morning (day six) we headed back towards Port Vell, en route to the Picasso Museum. Close to our hotel is the Parc de les Tres Xemeneies, inspired of course by the three chimneys of the former AEG Barcelona Traction factory next door.
Facilities include a playground, ping pong tables, basketball courts, a public stage, extensive rolling ground, ledges and a bounty of walls for skaters to negotiate.
