In addition to being the grave of an obviously important man, this marker inspired the young Margaret Laurence on her visits to the cemetery and was the origin of the title of her most famous novel, "The Stone Angel" (1964).

St Joseph Island Bridge and the Range Lights

As viewed from Richards Landing. The range lights are in the background, looking like little lighthouses (which, essentially, they are). They are for navigation (if your vessel is in a position such that the two lights line up vertically then you can be assured that it is on the safe and proper course into the Channel).

Here we are looking northeast, with Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in the foreground and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on the far side of the St. Mary's River. The two are connected by the International Bridge at centre.
