Day 359/365 - Old West Tony

So I wanted to go down to the old Ghost Towns in Death Valley and take a picture of my Halloween costume - a vaguely Man With No Name gunslinger.

But since killing my car put the kibosh on that, I had to make due with second best and find an old-westish backdrop to shoot against.

All you had to do was slip through these two buildings, across 30 feet of nothing but dirt, scale a 50 foot wall (with plenty of handholds) while people shot at you.

A roadside rest stop somewhere in Oregon, along the Oregon trail. And yes, I know the horizon is all cattywompus, but when I tried straightening it out, the fence didn't look as good.

So I'm driving down to Death Valley with the intent to shoot some old west stuff. While I didn't get down to the park, I did manage to find The Old West (ironically in Oregon of all places)

The picture wasn't the sharpest, thanks to some CRAZY wind shaking the tripod on this very long exposure, but I love the atmosphere - like something from a horror movie.

(SPOILER: it's really just a utility shed at a rest stop overlooking Pendleton, Oregon)

Evil Kenevil jumped the Snake River (or tried to) at this spot. I've shot this canyon before, but I like this one better.

Here's Death Row (I think) - significantly easier to get out of now than it was back in the sixties when the jail was open. Of course I had to pay 5 bucks to get in, so it balances out I guess.

Old West. . . Stuff

So along the side of the road up to the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, there was this - well, not a museum, but more of a collection of run down cool looking things - farm equipment and the like.

Oh, and a horse. We both surprised each other as we both wandered into view at more or less the same time. He was pretty chill tho, and I was able to shoot this shack.

Not the best one of the lot - there was one a second later that I shot that had awesome lens flare and the new Farris Wheel composed JUST right - bisected by a light pole I couldn't photoshop away.

Ah well - what I get for shooting out the back of a speeding car without looking in the viewfinder.
