Torridon - Land of the giants

Taken from the summit of Baosbheinn. I've been wanting to do this hill since photographing it over the winter.

It offers fantastic views into the Torridon basin. I walked in and over Beinn an Eoin (over on the left there) before crossing the loch, climbing Baosbheinn and back. Ridge camped on the peak you see lower to the right but clouded over all morning.

Washed Up

Taken on the East Beach at Hopeman - the Moray Coast is beautiful for sunsets at this time of year.

I used three clay pigeon shooting disks on the feet of my tripod to stop them from sinking into the sand.

Straightened the horizon 3 times on this one and still not happy - the wave angles make it difficult to look straight.

Spent an evening visiting friends near Drumnadrochit - what a view they have.

Note - this place is directly above Urquhart Castle - turn your head left and you're looking right up Loch Ness towards Inverness.

The Sanctuary - Isle of Skye

The sanctuary is the area in front of Storr. Its an almost lunar looking landscape with pinnacles that are the reminants of ancient land slips. The most famous of these pinnacles is the Old Man of Storr.

Typical Skye changeable weather in this one.

After an amazing sunset the skies over the West Coast cooked up a deep red before fading to darkness.

Heavy use of grad filters to retain some light on the upturned boat. This was the last shot before my camera fell into the loch last week :o(

My daughter Brooke wanted to try this today. She is standing on a stool and we had about 6 balloons. There are about 5 layers here with the balloons masked through each to make it look like one shot - the stool is masked out too - could of been better but a first effort.

I've noticed a few of these pimped up cars running on airbag suspension so thought I'd have a go at copying them - £3k to ruin your car or 5 mins in photoshop lol.

This no camera lark is driving me mental.

This poor girl was busy eating at Stoer Bay and hadn't noticed her buddies had cleared off on seeing me coming up the hill.

A few seconds of frozen shock then she high tailed it back out of sight.

Turned out a bit underexposed but I quite like the effect.

Stoer Head Lighthouse - Assynt Coast

This is probably one of my favourite shots. Its not the best shot I have taken but it was one of the most enjoyable.

The whole day had been cloudy and overcast, I'd given up any hope of a decent sunset. After dinner I noticed a band of light clearing along the horizon of the West Coast and decided to head out on the off chance things would improve.

Made the short drive out to the lighthouse , set up my camera and waited - hoping the sun would dip below the clouds. Sure enough just at sun set the sun popped out from below the thick cloud and lit the whole place up with a really intense orange light. A pretty amazing experience. I sat there with my tin of coke and cheese n onion crisps just taking it all in :)

I have added a shot of the whole thing in succession with a video from my phone too.

The shot doesn't do the scene justice but I'm happy with it.

Because of the intensity of the light the last shot was about the only useable one I have due to the flare.

These old clinker boats are a rarity these days as they are rotting away and are being replaced by newer fibreglass ones. Not nearly as nice to photograph. This one looks to have belonged to the Scourie Hotel at one point.

Shot mid afternoon with really bright light so opted for a mono version. The reeds really caught the light.

Took this one of the kids after a great sunset over Stoer Bay - a wonderful beach, like most of the other ones up here - we had the place all to ourselves.
