Amazing Grace - Hawk Hill

The other day I went to the top of Hawk Hill, as I often do after work, and enjoyed watching the sunset and seeing the lights of the city coming on one by one. Just before I left I heard two other visitors sing Amazing Grace in one of the old Battery Construction 129 tunnels up there. This is what the performance sounded like. Later, as the singers got ready to leave, they said they were truck drivers from Romania.

I used an iPhone 5 to record the audio. The pictures were shot in and around the tunnel, but not all on the same day.

May 3rd, 2013 - as on the day before, smoke from forest fires tinted the sun an unusual shade of red. The smoke also dimmed the sun enough to make it possible to see the larger sunspots without a protective filter. (The smaller ones were obscured by fairly strong heat rippling in the air.)

Smoke from fires near Napa drifts across the San Francisco Bay and out onto the Pacific Ocean. Just before setting the sun turns an unusual shade of red. The photo is pretty close to what the sunset really looked like. (Seen from Immigrant Point overlook in the Presidio on May 2nd, 2013.)
