How do you know that tourists are French? They are the only ones that don't communicate when you meet them in the mountains. Even when they met me on a narrow path and I stopped and stepped aside to let them pass me, they didn't even look at me. A few elderly people did, they even smiled and said "Merci". But most of them seemed to believe that i was a ghost that would turn them into stone if they noticed my existence. May be they were afraid I would start to talk English to them?

Possibly they belonged to a large group of tourists that was instructed by their guides to behave like this, but it was always the same, no matter where on Iceland I met them. Their behavior was so strange that I could not avoid to notice.

Huldresteinen - The Fairy Stone

En spesiell stein innenfor Storevatnet i Regndalen.

Steinen skiller seg ut med mange markerte striper på tvers (vises på bildet) samt ovenfra og ned (sees forfra, men ikke her fra siden). Sammen gir de steinen en firkantet form og et rutete preg.

Men mest spesiell er steinen fordi Huldra klatret i den.

Det er mange rare steiner i ura, men Huldresteinen er både den største og den mest markante. Huldresteinen ligger dessuten litt for seg selv, foran nesten alle de andre, så man legger merke til den når man går forbi her.

Ikke rart at det var denne steinen Huldra valgte seg ut.

Vistdal is a valley that ends in a bay at Langefjorden ("Long fjord") Romsdal, approx 50 km east of Molde, Norway. This district has some of the most dramatic sceneries in Norway. This view struck me when I was passing by, and I just had to stop my car and make a photo.

Behind the mountains to the left, an arm of Langefjorden, Eresfjorden, continues into the valley Eikesdalen. Here are some the most famous of all Norwegian waterfall, Mardøla or Mardalsfossene. (Østre Mardalsfossen is the highest waterfall in Northern Europe with a combined fall of 700 m, highest free fall is approx. 250 m.)

This place just below my viewpoint, Tjelle, was hit by one of the worst tsunami disasters in Norway in modern time. In 1756, 15 million cubic meters of rock fell into the water, the resulting tsunamis reached 15 m above normal sea level. 32 people were killed.

Et lekkert vann mellom Gråkallen og Storheia, de to høeste "haugene" i Bymarka. Vannet brukes som drikkevannskilde, så stiene er lagt ett stykke unna. Men det er så fint der at det lønner seg å ta en avstikker. selv om (eller kanskje spesielt?) når vann-nivået er tappet litt lavt.
