USA - San Diego Zoo - Gorilla

Lo Scorpione posted a photo:

"I don't want this to be a world where apes are extinct. You look in their eyes and you know these are fellow beings. I don't want our grandchildren to talk about apes and elephants as if they're talking about dinosaurs."

-- John Scherlis, zoölogist

No classic New Year's picture for the last upload of the year.
In all but one aspects, today is just a day as any other. So why forget about the challenges we face everyday, if those challenges remain?

While some efforts are being done, the fact remains that the big apes face a bleak future in the wild. They are our closest relatives on this planet. Then what are other species to expect of us?

Continuing the uploads on the San Diego Zoo, this is one of the zoo's 10 (after female Alvila died at the age of 45 earlier this year) Western lowland gorillas. One of the easiest scientific names around: Gorilla gorilla gorilla :)

Couldn't find his name online, but he's a young silverback, possibly a blackback still. Anybody?

Hit L to see all the dark details in his face...

South Africa - Cape Town - Green Point Stadium III

Lo Scorpione posted a photo:

So...I unfortunately did not manage to get tickets for any of the games in Cape Town. But...most people that dó have tickets will never come this close to the field :p

Taken during our tour of the new Cape Town Stadium on the Green Point Common.

I had wanted to make a joke about sign being the South African team's strategy for winning the cup but I guess that wouldn't go down so well after yesterday's game :(

We all hope for a miracle on Tuesday against France! Where's those angels to carry that ball between the poles? (for those of you who haven't seen The 16th Man, South African archbishop Desmond Tutu commented on the winning dropkick goal in the 1995 WC Rugby finals that it seemed as if angels were carrying the ball through the poles).

Double exposure from a single RAW file.

South Africa - Camps Bay - Footprints

Lo Scorpione posted a photo:

It's been a while since my last Sigma 10-20mm upload I see :)
This is another one from the sundowner with Panorama Paul in Camps Bay.

Footprints from the sea
Strolling the beach I was looking for some good footprints in the wet sand but when I finally found some and was about to press the shutter, a longer wave flattened the entire stretch of sand...leaving me with soaked shoes in the process :)

By the time I could compose a shot of these very fresh prints the sun was hugging the horizon...

Triple exposure from a single RAW file.

Tonight South Africa is taking on Uruguay at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. Good luck to the boys!
