An iPhone image I took last summer when I was visiting my mom in Southern California when she was recovering from a fall. I liked the idea of this photo, but didn't really know what to do with it. Lately I've been playing with Nik Color Efx and came up with this version. By the way, the Nik has dramatically reduced the price of their software suite. Some of their tools remind me of iPhone apps. And of course, they make Snapseed for the iPhone.

The wife and I went to the new San Francisco Jazz Center tonight. It is truly magnificent. I wonder what Charlie Parker or Thelonious Monk would think of this shrine to an original American art form. We heard the Patricia Barber Quartet. She's pretty magnificent herself.

La Zapatería Shoe Repair in Antonito, Colorado. Last time I was there a year and a half ago, there was a dumpster in front of the door. My Flickr friend Pam posted a photo of it six months ago with the same dumpster in front of it. I drove by in August (it takes me a while to post things sometimes) and… no dumpster! Just a barking dog next door. :-)

Art's Treasure Trove

Art's Treasure Trove on Route 66 in Albuquerque. This one has a little story. Across the parking lot from Art's is Garcia's, a Mexican food restaurant with a great neon sign that was featured on Breaking Bad. Anyway, I ate lunch at Garcia's and had a friendly chat with the waitress, who recommended the brisket taco plate, which was very good. When I was done I decided to walk over to Art's to see what it was. What it was was a bit of a disappointment. It's what you might find at a Saturday estate sale these days. I bet in it's heyday it was pretty cool, though.

As I was walking back to my car and decided to use the restroom in Garcia's. When I was done, I headed out the door when the waitress stopped me asked if I had paid for lunch, apologizing for even insinuating that I might do such a thing. I thought for a moment, and realized she was right. Not only that, I planned to have huevos rancheros there the next morning. They would have though, "here comes that deadbeat!" She said she couldn't believe I would walk out; I just didn't look the type. I couldn't believe it, either. :-) I paid up and stopped by the next morning, as planned.

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We've had featureless skies day after day for what seems like weeks. But on Monday it actually rained, so I went up to Fremont Older after work and took this photo of my favorite tree from the hiking trail. On Tuesday it was back to boring blue skies, with no end in sight.

A motel near Glencoe, Kentucky. The starkness of the place was kind of eerie, like it came out of an Errol Morris movie or something. "MOTEL" is spelled out in neon. Must be interesting to see this place at night.

A sign in Mansfield, Ohio on the side of an old factory or warehouse. The wife and I found this amusing because she is currently working on a quilt made out of buttons. I don't know the story behind the sign, but a Google search shows that there is a Button's Auto Center, so maybe it has to do with that.
