The West Highland Way Race is an annual 95 miles (153 km) race along the full south–north distance of the West Highland Way.<br /> <br /> The path uses many ancient roads, including drovers' roads, military roads and old coaching roads. The trail is a magnificent journey through Scotland and we see hikers along the trails each week as we are out and about in the countryside. My husband completed the journey several years ago over a three day period. <br /> <br /> We were out walking on Tuesday along a small portion of the trail and came across a Goldcrest Warbler, the smallest bird in the UK, streams, forests, rivers, ponds and mountains laced with white clouds and fog.
