Our friend Karen visited from Berkeley, and Wednesday we went to the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, where the rhododendrons are in magnificent bloom.

In the Little Lake Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Willits, the graves are oriented east-west, except for this one that cuts across the pattern and lies north-south. The text on the stone explains why.

This rose has filled out wonderfully over the new arbor, seeming to be quite recovered from the collapse of the old arbor during the winter. It opened a few blooms days ago. Although the bush is covered with buds, it is taking its time about opening more.

Lovely spring vegetation from our back deck in Brooktrails. The problem is that we've had so little rain in January through April that, despite the beautiful green color, this is all so dry already that it would burn readily. In the largest size, you can see that there is still some water standing in the creek even though we've had no measurable rain in the last three weeks.

A full house waits for the beginning of the last performance of "The Music Man" by the Mendocino College Theatre Arts Department & Ukiah Civic Light Opera. The theatre is on the Mendocino College Campus a few miles north of Ukiah. The audience was very enthusiastic about the show.
