poor conditions and lack of opportunity have prevented us from venturing out at night this winter, so that leaves me digging in the achieves :)

Rondeau Park. The ice does strange things with the constant shifting of the water, thin sheets of ice lined the shore line.....
we spent half of our time waiting for the sun to break through the clouds, the ice flow at the right was under cloud cover and dull looking

30 sec. @ f13, ISO 2000..... I use a Pentax 12 - 24 lens mostly for night shooting, this lens will often produce a star-burst type flare even at f4, I suspect it has something to do with the lens coating. This type of flare is most usually associated with a small aperture. So I thought I would try it with a smaller aperture, I pushed the ISO up a lot just to get it over with quickly...... Just thought I'd share this.....

4 minutes @ f2.8, ISO160.... while the K7 was doing noise reduction I continued shooting with the K20D, the cloud action was just too nice to miss .... a couple of late night party people form a near-by trailer park came down to the beach in a golf-cart, lighting the shore line nicely.....

42 minutes @ f4,..... a late night venture for a moonrise.....

After a relaxing Saturday and several hours of too much television, I began to grow restless, a quick peek outside showed stars overhead, checked the computer to find the moon rising soon. Good enough, pack-up and head to the beach at midnight. Extremely dark when we get there with some light pollution on the horizon. Just took a good guess where the moon might come up and look for some sort of foreground and lock down the remote. A convenient near-by log served as a comfortable seat to view the night, I can't begin to tell how tranquil it is sitting there at night listening to the waves gently lapping the shore. We saw a half dozen meteors burn-up while watching the stars. I was tempted to stop the exposure when the moon first started peeking through the clouds and glistening on the lake, but I felt it was not quite bright enough. Finally the moon ascended above the clouds on the horizon and brightened the shore and showed clear silhouettes of the rocks in front of us, a few minutes of this and then it was time to stop and wait for noise reduction to see if I had anything worth keeping. At least I had another camera so I was able to keep shooting.......

2 minutes @ f5.6..... May's big moon was not always co-operative, but gave a splendid show peeking thru the clouds...... Val and I had the pleasure of meeting-up with Jocelyn for this evenings shoot...
Val was telling Jocelyn about burning steel wool, she didn't seem to understand, so a demonstration was in order :)

2 sec. @ f4, 1600 ISO..... just a quick look at the nights sky..... cranked the ISO a bit trying to show what we actually seen without the motion of the night....
the odd time the cloud cover would have an opening and the moon would show itself..... Val and I had the pleasure of meeting-up with Jocelyn for this evenings shoot..... it was fun to see her excitement as she captured the nights ever-changing events.....
