Looking like something out of 'Alien', the larvae of some of the Green Lacewings camouflage themselves. They have long and stiff hairs all over their body and on these they put the skins of their sucked dry victims (leaf lice). See www.gardensafari.net/english/locusts.htm#grasshoppers

Seeing a ladybird eating another living insect is like watching Superman mug an old lady! I think this is a 10 spot ladybird - apparently they are highly variable and often pale in colour.

It's actually holding the lump of food in its front legs, clear of the table surface and ingesting it via its proboscis!
