Red-Winged Blackbird in Golden Lit Reeds

*GloriousNature*bySusanGaryPhotography posted a photo:

I really enjoyed trying to capture the hundreds of red-winged blackbirds flying into these reeds at the Sonny Bono Wildlife Refuge near the Salton Sea .. there were literally hundreds of them! This shot is the best one of all my tries as it was not easy to capture them doing this. First off..they would get stirred up by a Northern Harrier Hawk who was flying over the reeds..they would all fly out of the reeds and scatter .. then they would return circling round and the very quickly dive bomb to hide again in the reeds. They are very fast..and hard to capture as they are not a large bird like a hawk or a pelican, etc. Anyhoo, this one is pretty cool looking to me.. and the reeds were lit up so nicely by the setting sun behind me too. I keep thinking to myself that I should change the lens out to the 70-200mm to capture them..but then I wanted to be ready for flight shots of the larger birds. I think now I need 3 cameras! one with wide-angle, one with the 300m and one with the 70-200mm..hmm.//-;D

Better large on black of course!

Male Peacock at the Arboretum

*GloriousNature*bySusanGaryPhotography posted a photo:

Well...this is one of many peacock shots I got during my visit to the L.A. Arboretum in Arcadia, CA. Thought the depth of field was kind of interesting here as he munches on a snack on the ground.

I missed two ops to get shots of a peacock flying. I think next time, I will make it a point to capture one flying..that would be pretty cool. But this trip I was interested in walking around and looking for different stuff which is why I didn't plant myself in one spot and hope another peacock flew by. Both times it happened though, it was pretty much without warning and kinda outta nowhere...so it might be kind of hard to actually capture one in flight...maybe...we'll see next time I go here. PLUS I want to remember to go back mid-February as I understand this is when the male peacocks will start displaying their feathers..I am going to have to think what lens to use..wide angle maybe? I had a difficult time getting the whole peacock in shots with the 300 mm//so then I tried with the 70-200mm which was better..but I took a shot with my cellphone which came out pretty good..esp. after I edited it and improved upon it in photoshop. hmmm..maybe will upload and post it below..

Used Florabella "Lighten-Brighten" action here to warm up the shot...

I have been trying to get good dog shots of my dogs. Once in awhile I get lucky. I think this one is pretty good except his nose is out of focus. I can see myself in his eyes, which have had the effect of a wide angle lens...if you look closer you can see me..not a flattering angle at all! ;-D Well..I guess to see me I would have had to upload a larger version!
Me in my Babushka!

*GloriousNature*bySusanGaryPhotography posted a photo:

HA! this is me in my most favorite sweater and as always my grandmother put her Babushka on my head..so I don't catch cold..lol...I think this is from about 1959! OY Vey! And I think the dog (not bear..I was tired last night) on my sweater is Huckleberry Hound (not Finn .. duh) .what's the other ones name? Anyone remember? I don't know what those shoes are..they don't ring a bell!

Obviously I have gotten out the old slides from the late 1950's to early 1960's and have started some scanning work! I only scanned this but did not try to remove the spots and/or scratches. I will probably try to do that later and then replace this image..it was just so funny to see this I was in a hurry to share! I am totally confused as to what settings to use..Anyone know? I mean is it possible to scan from a small little slide at say 6400 dpi .. and what color bit ? 24 or 48? I want to end up with a decent size image..Anyway this one is 300 dpi and 4500 x 3000 pixels...approximately..but I think I scanned it at 6400 and then changed it to those numbers. Well and then I downsized it for uploading to Flickr as usual; I might have to read the directions! But if anyone has any information on how to scan slides properly and what to expect as far as sizes and resolution and stuff, let me know!

HA! this is me in my most favorite sweater and as always my grandmother put her Babushka on my head..so I don't catch cold..lol...I think this is from about 1959!
