My sister and her friend are visiting from out of town, and so the occasion called for doing touristy things! An awesome break in our winter weather called for a spectacular trip to the top of the Space Needle.

Captured this during late summer of 2010. We ended up parking the car on the side of the road for some sightseeing shortly after we saw two fighter jets scramble vertical right from behind this guardrail. They didn't reappear, unfortunately--we reckoned they went back to the Air Force area just south of the western Death Valley entrance.

Earlier this morning we were at a 10,000 ft elevation on Yosemite's eastern entrance where there were patches of snow on the ground. That evening, we were standing next to a sign that claimed we were at sea level. Getting out of the car here, we were blasted with the dry desert heat--definitely a change from the snow! Can't wait to get back to the National Parks of the Southwest again to explore more!

They call this the "Sinking Ship" Parking Garage. From some perspectives it does look as though it is a sinking bow, and form the other side, it looks as though it's a giant obelisk uncovered after millennia of erosion left by some ancient civilization.

Alas, it is just a parking lot (or a carpark for you U.K. folks).

Stopped by Alki Beach today in West Seattle to try more of my luck with my ND110 filter from B+W. This is probably the best attempt I have to date, but still far from how I'd like it to turn out. It's hard to get something exposed correctly when you're losing ten stops of light (even intentionally!).

This one was a 90 second exposure. Camera was set to auto white balance, and I found that is definitely something that kills the initial pop of the image (so, naturally, I mucked a bit with it in Lightroom) :).

the fog and rain at rattlesnake ridge really produced some awesome atmosphere that i really needed to capture. doing so, however, left my lens less-that-dry so there may be a few 'fuzzy' spots on the photo above. definitely worth it though!

a hike up to rattlesnake ledge yielded some cloudy, but awesome views form the top. you can't see it here because of the fog, but the cliff face drops down almost 1200ft. definitely worth the hike to the top!

i totally forgot to write down the name of what type of fern these were, but doing a little internet research i think they are ostrich ferns. i've never been brave enough to try them, but the people who have say they can be delicious!
