An attempt at tilt shift processing. This image was very very tricky to process because its slanted. Only after few trials (of processing, I mean) I got the DoF right. And after that I liberally increased the saturation and dodged and burned without worries to give it a toy-like feel :)
What do you think?
Taken on the tram in Getty Center. The freeway you see is I-405 (San Diego Freeway). Shot at 180mm.
Wildfire in Los Angeles

Madiator posted a photo:

The Los Angeles wildfire (also known as the station fire) has been ravaging and burning out of control for the past few days. It has already consumed 17,199 hectares threatening 10,000 homes, as of Aug 30th, 2009. Already two news channels have reported that their TV towers are in danger, the NASA JPL had a close call and the century old Mt. Wilson observatory is also in danger.

Temperatures have been reaching around 100 degrees for the past two days and the forecast is no good news.

These wildfires happen every year at California. It will happen next year too. Thats unavoidable. What is pathetic is that 9 out of 10 are wildfires start due to man made mistakes and at least 3/4th of that is due to negligence. One small mistake and billions of dollars lost, but more than that - lives are lost and people become homeless.

But what keeps the whole system running are the firefighters. I can't imagine what will happen without those brave souls who put their lives at risk and venture into the fire to diffuse it. Hours ago, news was reported about the death of two firefighters (caused due to some accident). This image is more like a tribute to those two souls - let their souls rest in peace; and for those firefighters who are fighting out there day and night so that we can sit here comfortably.

This image has been taken from USC. I had to adjust the image a little bit to cancel the effect of the smoke spread out (partially due to pollution) in the city. Those who saw something similar couldn't have seen it this clearly because your eyes don't have the 'curves' processing power which photoshop has, but you would have seen something like the last image in the first comment!

Update: The image featured in user submitted photos in NYTimes! (link might get outdated as more photos are added)

The Getty Center is one of the two locations of J. Paul Getty Museum, the other one being the Getty Villa. It has pre-20th century European artwork and the only contemporary (20th century) work presented there are some photographs. Richard Meier is the architect of this landmark and it was opened on Dec 16, 1997 after a whopping cost of $1.6 Billion.
Its a must visit if you are coming to Los Angeles! Its a photographic treasure especially if you love architecture. I will be going there again someday just to take pictures of the buildings ;) and yet another day to enjoy the paintings!

Solvang is a city in Santa Barbara County, California, United States. The city of Solvang is one of the communities that make up the Santa Ynez Valley. The population was 5,332 at the 2000 census.

Solvang was founded in 1911 on 9,000 acres (36 km²) of formerly Spanish land by a group of Danish educators, who traveled west to escape midwestern winters. The city is home to some bakeries, restaurants, and merchants offering a taste of Denmark in California. The architecture of many of the buildings follows traditional Danish style. There is a copy of the famous Little Mermaid statue from Copenhagen, as well as one featuring the bust of famed Danish fable writer Hans Christian Andersen. A replica of the Copenhagen observatory Rundetårn in the scale 1:3 was finished in 1991 and can be seen in the city centre.

Caught this amazing rainbow today at around 4pm - this is definitely the highlight of the week long rain in LA. Took a few shots using my iPhone, but I wish I really had my DSLR with me. The view was breathtaking - first because I have never seen a double rainbow before and second because the LA downtown buildings were in the backdrop!
