Nothing like Blue Skies. Taken a little bit before sunset, loved the clouds. This was while out on an engagement session. Waiting for the rude man who kept walking back and forth into our shots. Ignorant people. Hope everyone had a great weekend despite the weather!

Last week I had to climb up to the top of our silo building to do some work, so I did it before the sun rose and brought my camera with. The silo's are inclosed, but I climbed up to the roof access point and enjoyed the sunrise from there. A wonderful view of the city, the sky started off rather boring but then some beautiful light came and I was glad to be able to enjoy it. If only I could bring some coffee up there!

I just posted a quick update on my blog, link is below. Taken again from the top of the Onterie Building downtown Chicago. Processed this with Luminosity Masks instead of digital blending or an HDR program. Trying to figure out what I like best. They all are similar, depends on how much control you want.

At the End of the Day

It's not always blue hour for me. This was one of the first shots I took with the D800, well other than of my wife and dog. This is three vertical frames stitched together. This is actually processed normal in Lightroom then I am messing around with Luminosity masks in Photoshop. I like this process but need to refine it with my current practices (which you can see here!). Anyways, hoping to get out this weekend and get some new shots around the city! Have a great weekend!

These are my type of blue skies, blue hour skies. Last one for a while from my adventure on top of the Onterie Building Downtown. This was taken handheld so I could get my camera over the ledge far enough to look down. Love this view. Also check out my final part of my cityscape guide on OutofChicago.com's website.

A 2-shot panoramic of Chicago. Beautiful Evening though breezy, I was worried about the grey skies earlier but the broke up and provided me a beautiful sky to shoot.

Another one from this past Thursday, love the sky here and the moon. This was handheld so I could get a little further over the ledge. I know the ledge is in the bottom corner, couldn't find a way to crop it out without losing part of the image I wanted and I couldn't hang my camera over the ledge more due to me fear of dropping it, :-) Three exposures blended manually in PS.

From this past Thursday, after the short flurry we had in the early evening I had a great opportunity to shoot from the top of a building in Streeterville. Since I had 360 degree views from up here, I have some great shots that I plan on using in my upcoming parts of my Cityscape guide on

The Iconic View

Called it the Iconic view because really it is, with the skyline shot from Adler. I mean those are probably the two most photographed shots of Chicago. Went up here to really test out the detail in the D800, and it really did well. This is a five shot 32 bit HDR with some of the original exposures manually blended back in to highlight and shadow some spots that I think needed it.

Trumped V2.0

Trumped V2.0 since I called an older version of this shot Trumped. This is from last week playing around with the D800. This is not an HDR this time, just manually blended 5 exp to create the depth in the image. Between LR4, the D800's Dynamic Range, and just manually blending the exposures which in my eyes gives a better realistic image, I am thinking my HDR days maybe number. (Except for sometimes I do use it in portraits to give a cool feel).

Frozen Chicago

Last week I finally broke down and got the D800. Love this thing so far, though I have not been out on a session with it, so I full review will come then. The images come out of the camera beautiful and have such amazing detail. The files are huge and make sure you have a computer to handle them, and several hard drives as well ;-)

This was taken this past weekend from a client's balcony. We were shooting their engagement photographs and I took a couple shots of the view. I took some to make a pano but have not really worked on it yet since it might take some manual stitching since I took it by hand.

Really hitting up this revisiting thing. It is amazing the detail I can pull out of the D3000 RAW files with Lightroom. This is only a three shot HDR, then some local levels adjustment. I did a 16 x9 crop to reduce some of the sky in my original shot to help focus on the city. The title speaks for itself, it is the view of Chicago that most people think of, well this and Adler.

Walking on Water

From two sunrises to a sunset. This was taken about 30 minutes before the shot of Brian here: The Photographer. Standing on the frozen lake gave a little bit different vantage point and using a 10 stop filter made the ice chunks in the water in front of me look a whole lot less like ice chunks.
