How was this building ever allowed to be built on one of the prime sites in London? Rumours abound about favours being given here and there and money transfers into Swiss bank accounts .....but rumours are rumours and so have to be discounted..................

Construction work on One Hyde Park began in January 2007 causing traffic chaos in the area for over two years.The superstructure of the building was completed in March 2009. Fitting-out of the building began in April 2009. In August 2010 a penthouse in the development was rumoured to be sold for £140 million, making it the most expensive residential property in Britain. However, a newspaper report at the time of the development's launch party in January 2011 indicated that according to Land Registry records the sale of only five properties had been completed - the 'recordbreaking' £140 million penthouse being sold to the development's own financial backer Sheik Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani for £40.5 million in August 2010.

In January 2012 it emerged that of the 85 flats in the development only 3 have permanent residents, 49 are classed as second homes, 6 have been purchased but remain empty and 27 remain unsold.

Was the building built on such a prime spot on its architectural merits?.......I guess not.

London has numerous garden squares with beautiful pieces of art, however, they are private and only accessible by residents of the squares. Today , while passing Cadogen Place Gardens in Knightsbridge I noticed this sculpture 'Volare' by Lorenzo Quinn. Thankfully, there is not much foliage on the bushes and trees surrounding the square and I was able snap this from outside the garden.
