Provia 100F slide film is almost grainless!

When shooting medium format, I always look for subjects that make it possible to see the "medium format magic". With this I mean an extremely shallow DoF. Using a 50mm F2,8 wide angle (eq. to 28mm in the SLR-world), wide open, the unsharp background lets the main subject pop forward.

With their "arms" reaching for the sky in an unnatural pose, large fallen tree stubs have something special to them, I cannot exactly explain it, maybe you will get the feeling I mean, when looking at this shot...

Harm Buiterplein - Groningen

Right next to the new railway station (Groningen-Europapark) and the new office building of SoZaWe-Groningen, a new square is being created. Harm Buiter became Mayor of Groningen, and stepped down 14 years later. He died on February the 22nd 2011.

In the distance you can see the "Euroborg", the soccer stadium..

I always love slide film, especially on medium format. So, I was pretty disappointed when Kodak stopped making Ektachrome! I think, Fujifilm comes pretty close...

Cleaning up my hard drive after calibrating my monitor... Such a large hard disk, and still, it gets full. I'm probably the only one...

I shot this one last year in the late summer, but never came around to processing the scan.
This is one of the places of which I think: "Wish I actually lived here"...

Last year, in 2012, the exterior of this church has been extensively renovated. It is now perfectly water tight again, and freshly painted. I couldn't resist using the 12-24....

This shot was made last year about the same time as it is now. I was browsing the archives looking for analogue shots made with this wide angle lens, to check for CA-distortion.

Negative film, as you may remember is that orange stuff, and i find it very rewarding to turn that drabby "orange stuff" into colours like this.

To me, this is the fun of analogue, all these colours are created by me, and NOT by my camera.

NEW: I converted this RAW-image with Colorperfect's PerfectRAW. imho the colour-quality of this conversion is awesome. The shots even come out sharper, with NO sharpening applied!

Yesterday I went out with Bram to find the Sand martins nesting place. I've never seen these birds before, so I was pretty excited. There were numerous nesting holes from which the birds flew in and out, performing spectacular aerobatics. It was really awesome, even though we were held at considerable distance by a steel, (locked) fence...
The advantage was that we were at such a distance that we were NOT disturbing the birds at all. they really didn't care about us!

Because of the distance, the IQ is not optimal, but I thought I'd share some anyway...

Heveskes was a small village in the upper most north-east of Holland. I have wanted to visit here for a long time, but never came around to it...

The entire village has been broken down in the seventies to make room for industrial expansion. Only the church remained, and is still standing proud. (from about 1200)
Walking here, one has a real sense of history, but the landscape is almost empty. Kinda strange contrast... Especially now, while there was a thunderstorm building up, it all felt a bit eerie...

Heveskes was een dorp in de uiterste oosthoek van de gemeente Delfzijl in de Nederlandse provincie Groningen.

Het is grotendeels afgebroken in de jaren zeventig van de twintigste eeuw om ruimte te maken voor het industriegebied Oosterhorn. Alleen het middeleeuwse kerkje op de wierde, een schuur en twee boerderijen herinneren nog aan het voormalige dorp. Naar schatting dateert het oudste deel van de kerk uit 1200. Ze is tegenwoordig in eigendom van de Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken. (Bron Wikipedia)

With temperatures rising and some light rain every now and then, nature explodes! I found a spot where these tiny flowers cover large areas, the colour is beautiful!

This is one of the first herbs to bloom. It is used in nature medicine to stimulate the digestive system and to cure problems with the respitory system. But take care, if used for long periods, this herb can cause liver failure or (when used even longer) cancer.

Another technical remark: The colour yellow of this tiny flower is SO intense I used the PhotoPro colour space to prevent losing vibrance. I Uploaded it in this same colour space. IE-users will possibly see super dull colours, but other browsers will display the full YELLOW tone!!

This one's for everybody who longs for spring or even summer!

Made it last summer, while testing my newly acquired F80 film camera. I also have this as a background on my computer screen, and I like the vibrant colours. They cheer me up!

This church is an official wedding location, the only remaning part of a large monastery complex:

When shooting this, I forgot to stop down the aperture, so this is the lens performance wide open at 12mm. One can find corner distortion, but center sharpness is more than good enough.

NOTICE:
The film itself was one of the expired rolls I got from a friend. The colours are OK, but the film grain was very bad. The new raw-converter of Photoshop CS6 took care of that very nicely though...

Scanned at full resolution, 7200dpi, the size is 10152 x 6584, being 62MP!! This makes a print size of 85 x 55 at 300dpi possible. With film!!

... I remembered a specific photo of a holiday I spent in the French Alps. In my opinion, during a holiday I simply MUST see mountains, otherwise I have had NO holiday, no beaches for me, hahaha!

Most Europeans and/or bike fans know about the "Alpe d'Huez", a real challenge for cyclists (Tour de France). In the i.m.h.o. very ugly village Huez, on top of the mountain, it is very busy, looks like a Saturday afternoon shopping centre. Specially built, I think, for cyclists (summer) and skiers in the winter.

But if one takes the time to take a trail further up into the mountains (2100mtrs), we were alone again with the wind, the tiny flowers, some quartz crystals, and these wonderful lakes...

For what I can see, and what I have been told, security is taken VERY seriously!
A lot of security features are in place for the workers, like fencing, markings, access stairs, and of course, abundant lighting, for which the photographer is very thankful!

The building offers two atrium's. This one will become a pubic area.

Having actual access makes it possible to take interior shots. These various light colours come to life through the camera sensor. Our eyes only "see" cold white light. At the right you can see the basis of the high Liebherr tower crane...

This lens really is a dream for me, very versatile for all kinds of subjects, I can take shots which were otherwise impossible to take.
