garden view of renovated Lenbachhaus, Munich.
The Lenbachhaus originally was house of and home for Franz von Lenbach, influential German painter of the 19th century. It is now a museum for his paintings and mainly paintings of the Blaue Reiter Group (Macke, Marc, Kandinsky, Münter and others).

Gorgeous addendum is the modern annex building to the southwest by architect Sir Norman Foster (a glimpse of it in the backdrop, more in my next flickr-posting). Grand re-opening will be very soon: May 8th - looking forward to it !

"What is now called the Cuvilliés-Theater, after its architect, François Cuvilliés the Elder, consists of the auditorium of a theatre that Elector Maximilian Joseph III built in 1751-55 as his "new opera house". Originally reserved exclusively for members of court, the theatre lay in close proximity to the Residenz. Many lavish opera productions were mounted here, including the first performances of Mozart's Idomeneo, in 1781."

part of the Royal City Palace "Residenz" in Munich - Due to a re-Winter end of March here in Munich, I like to show at least two indoor classics of this wonderful Palace: this so called Antiquarium and next time the Cuvilliés-Theater.

"This hall is the oldest room of the Residenz München. 66 metres long, it is the largest and most lavish Renaissance interior north of the Alps. Duke Albrecht V had it built from 1568 to 1571 for his collection of antique sculptures. These antiquities gave the room its name "Antiquarium".

Impossible to resist as I noticed a glimpse of red in my rearview mirror: poppies on a lush meadow under the open Bavarian white-blue sky. Initially I thought about a quick and easy cliché capture, but lightest wisps of wind taught me patience for the next 30 minutes to finally nail this shot.

peaceful summer evening at Hubertusbrunnen reflecting in the Schlosskanal
Munich, close to Nymphenburg Palace

The Hubertus fountain was built during 1903 and 1907 due to a layout of Adolf von Hildebrand as a small temple with roof. Inside you'll find the fountain itself and a statue of a stag with a cross between the antlers. The St. Hubertus statue is standing on the rooftop. Initially, the Hubertus fountain was located in front of the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum at Prinzregentenstraße. In 1937, the fountain was deconstructed. During 1954 it was rebuilt at its today location at Schlosskanal in Nymphenburg/Gern.
