Is it possible to fall out of love with your own hometown?

I've lived in Jyväskylä almost all my life and I used to love the sights and sounds of this little city. I used to find comfort in the familiar streets and faces. I used to feel safe and at home here. But these days I just don't feel like I belong here anymore. And I'm wondering if it's time to move on...

Easter fire in Noukanniemi, Jyväskylä. This tradition originates from the western part of Finland: in the ye olde times these fires were lit to scare away witches and evil spirits.

Avantouinti, (literally "ice hole swimming") or winter swimming, is one of those Finnish activities that gives our nation the reputation of being utterly apeshit-crazy. The idea of 'avantouinti' is that you find a frozen lake, make a hole in the ice and, well, go swimming.

This particular winter swimming spot can be found in Herttoniemi, Helsinki. And doesn't this scene just make you go "Why yes, I'd love to go for a swim!"

A big thanks goes to Annamari for being such an awesome tour guide for this small-town boy :)
