I think just about everything that could be said about this statue has been said – so I won't express my sentiments. Also, this statue has been photographed about every way possible, which is why I really wanted to make this picture unique. The angle is one thing but I felt it needed more than that to really set it apart, so I chose to up the exposure in RAW and sort of create a high-key photo. The end result is a blown out background, but I kind of like the look for this particular photograph.

Would love to know what you all think about the high-key look here...

Chinese Parasol Details

Yes, there's been a thousand pictures of these parasols posted on Flickr and elsewhere, but what sets this one apart from the majority of them, is that I was shooting up into the sun. I really liked the way the sun was illuminating these silky umbrellas, so I thought I'd try to capture that. I really looked around a lot more on this trip for opportunities with light and shadow.

I don't say this often but this is straight out of the camera, no processing. I did process it a few different ways but no matter what I did I kept coming back to the original...

Cinderella Castle Fire & Ice

Cinderella Castle as seen on the night of parade taping day. I'm not crazy about this composition as I think it makes Cinderella Castle look a little on the small side while the area (stage) in front of the castle looks much more expansive than it actually is. Furthermore, for those that have seen this in person, everyone can probably agree that no picture can do this jaw dropping scene justice. But it is Christmas, and I can't think of a better Christmas light display than this one, so I post it anyway...

This photo was taken just before the other “balloons in front of BAH” shot that is my 8th most interesting photo, according to Flickr. The other shot was taken a few steps closer to the balloons and I think, overall is probably the better picture. I previously overlooked this photo as it was tremendously underexposed. After some HDR magic I was able to bring up the levels high enough without producing too much noise. I also slightly changed the color of the sky using the channel mixer. Hope you like it!

I don't really have much to say for this shot except I wish I could have gotten a wider angle (I'll spare that sob story) and for some reason the left side of the frame is very soft... probably should have stopped down to f/5.6.

Although barely noticeable, the scaffolding kind of ruins this shot. I hadn't noticed it until I did the post processing. Nothing really happening with the composition here but I thought the colors looked nice at night.

I got extremely lucky with being in the right place at the right time with this picture. It rained all day long and just before the sun went down for the day, it peaked out from behind the clouds and lit the scene nicely. I had just walked out of the shop right there by The Hall of Presidents and this is what I saw.

The plaque under the tree reads:

“Under the roughs of the original Liberty Tree in Boston in 1765, patriots, calling themselves “The Sons of Liberty,” gathered to protest the imposition of the Stamp Act. In the years that followed, almost every American town had a Liberty Tree – a living symbol of the American freedom of speech and assembly. Our Liberty Tree is a Southern Live Oak, Quercus Virginiana, more than 100 years old.”

I've always been a fan of the Hall of Presidents, but the recent changes put this attraction over the top in my opinion. The audio-animatronics are so life like it's almost eerie! In this scene, the presidents (note the picture and name them please if you know any!) pictured: Bill Clinton, George W Bush, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln – among others, look on to Barack Obama as he gives his speech.

Don't really have much to say about this photo except that it is kind of ruined by all the light flare. I guess the composition is kind of off too, but I'm okay with it. I like the contrast of the stillness of the scene with the motion blur of the windmill.

As everyone else has, I've posted a similar picture to this before, but this is at a slightly different vantage point. I'm not entirely happy with this end result because of the really bright light on the boat (at 8:00pm they were still running the Liberty Belle believe it or not). Since this happens to be one of those pictures that I just can't pass up I'm sure I'll get another shot at it again soon.
