Che Guevara Mausoleum

Ron Jansen posted a photo:

The main reason for us (and most people) to stop in Santa Clara is the memorial that houses the remains of executed Marxist revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara and 29 of his fellow combatants killed in 1967 during the attempt to start an armed uprising in Bolivia.
Guevara was laid to rest with full military honors on October 17th 1997 after his remains were discovered in Bolivia and returned to Cuba.

At the site, there is this almost 7 m high bronze statue of Che, a small but interesting museum dedicated to his life and an eternal flame lit by Fidel Castro in Che's memory.
Santa Clara was chosen as the location in remembrance of Guevara's troops taking the city on December 31st 1958, during the Battle of Santa Clara. The result of this final battle of the Cuban Revolution was dictator Batista fleeing into exile.

The biggest cemetery of Cuba, in Havana, houses artistic marvels in marble and granite. A bit strange to pay an entrance fee to a cemetery, but the tombs (f.e. shaped like an Egyptian pyramid, fortress or small mansion), vaults and statues were spectacular!
