Abhurite occurs exclusively on tin ingots in shipwrecks. It is formed by the chemical reaction between the tin and the chloride ions present in seawater. Here, a scanning electron micrograph shows the platy abhurite crystals discovered on tin ingots salvaged from the wreck of S.S. Liverpool off the coast of Anglesey.

The Burton Hoard
From: National Museum Cardiff

The Burton hoard is a group of important Bronze Age gold objects including rigs, bracelets and belts. They were uncovered by a group of metal detectorists near Wrexham and is spectacular in its range of middle Bronze Age artefacts. The Burton hoard contains pieces that are unparalleled anywhere else in the UK, including a bracelet with strands of twisted gold and a pendant consisting of a gold bi-conical bead. The quality and type of the jewellery is amazing and suggests a connection with the continent. The objects were buried together inside a pot and dates to the period 1300-1150 BC.
From: National Museum Cardiff

The last Ice Age ended only 10,000 years ago and humans along with many other species of mammals reappeared in Wales as the ice retreated. Unfortunately a some of the larger and more spectacular mammals such as the Bison and Wooly Rhinocerus didn't return. The European Bison became extinct in the wild in 1919 but has since been re-introduced from zoo animals. The largest herds are now found in the ancient forests in Poland.

Section through trunk of English Elm
From: National Museum Cardiff

This giant polished timber is a longitudinal section (2.6 m tall by 1.3 m wide) through an English elm tree trunk. The annual growth rings show the tree dates from the 1760s when George III was on the throne. It was donated to the museum in 1930 from the Bute Estate. With the ravages of Dutch Elm Disease, few or perhaps no trees of this size remain; it is a very special object.

This giant polished timber is a longitudinal section (2.6 m tall by 1.3 m wide) through an English elm tree trunk. The annual growth rings show the tree dates from the 1760s when George III was on the throne. It was donated to the museum in 1930 from the Bute Estate. From: St Fagans: National History Museum

The triple harp is different from the more conventional harp as it has three sets of strings and no pedals. It originated in Italy around 1600, but owing to its popularity in Wales by the end of the 18th century, it has become widely known as 'The Welsh Harp'. The instrument has three rows of strings, making it possible to play chromatic notes in addition to the diatonic scale.
