Times Square

Sandmania posted a photo:

Times Square....A dazzling display of illuminated neon signs and animated screens with an array of mindboggling colours, perplexing our eyes from normality into a visual feast....this place really is something else. I think I visited Times Square nearly every single day I was there.... its sooo hard not to when you see this.

I also had an unfortunate accident with my tripod here, whereby I placed it one of those grated areas without knowing and ended up with the head snapping off (camera was ok though) . After a bit of bargaining in one of the many camera shops there I bought a new one for a quarter of its original price :).

I was trying to go for a movie look with this image intially...but I kinda got carried away and lost and ended up with this. I am writing up a tutorial on this too...its fairly similiar to my previous tutorial, but this one will focus more on post processing in Photoshop (what I can remember that is). Much of the workflow/techniques I am sure many of you will have seen already and use/used them.

* Update - I have finished up the tutorial on this image. You can find it here.

Oozells Square

Sandmania posted a photo:

The atmosphere in Birmingham City Centre, England can be superb at night. As I walked around Brindley Place, I found small cafes and restaurants scattered in midst the office buildings, each with their own architectural style and ambience. A lot of them are situated nicely along the canalside...a wonderful setting for a meal.
The aroma of good food soon started filling my nostrils, so off I went to grab a bite to eat.

I took 3 handheld exposures for this image and then processed them with Photomatix.

Then in Photoshop;

- I first straightened and cropped the image
- Sharpened the image a little
- Slight curve adjustment layer was added
- Duplicated the layer and set the blend mode to overlay, reducing the opacity and fill to around 25%.

You can see it large here
