After the long winter we were all glad the spring kicked in, now it seems long ago this winter...

The shot

Standard 3 exposures HDR [-2,0,+2EV] in RAW/ISO100 at f/11 using the Sigma 10-20mm lens, on a tripod.

Photomatix

Tonemapped using the detail enhancer.

Photoshop

° Shadows&Highlights.
° Curves.
° A warming filter with a gradient mask on the horizon.
° Deepened the blue tones with a hue/saturation/lightness and less lightness on the blues.
° Some manual dodging of the highlights.
° Some manual saturation sponging.
° High pass sharpening ( See here for description )
with a mask to not sharpen the noisy sky.

About

Today it's exactly one year ago that I joined flickr, so I thought I would celebrate this
for myself with this little panorama, for my feeling it's one of the best I've made so far.

For those who have followed my stream they would most likely remember this beautiful place from a previous posting long ago.

It's the same place as the previous shot, here that canal is at the left of this shot and
has just merged together with two rivers and formed the river here on the right.

This is one of those spots which has a big chance of displaying magnificent skies.

A small wrap up of 1 year on flickr :

- 367 public images (not including this).
- 156 explored images.
- 3 front page appearencies
- I faved 10318 images, that's an averge of 28 a day, mmm.
- I made many friends and perhaps ( but I don't know ) a few enemies.
- I've met some of you in person.
- I've sent 1196 mails (gee I have to clean a bit, LOL !).
- 6 apprentecies who are quite successful, well 1 has much more success than me ;)
- I've learned a lot, not only by practising, but also thanks to the many
brilliant photographers that roam in this community, you are all a big
inspiration !!!

A joke (warning:sexual content)

Normally I don't remember jokes, but this one I do :

In the circus there this act with a crocodile, the tamer makes the crocodile
open it's beak wide by tapping gently on the animal's head.
He drops his pants and puts his willy in the animal's beak, he then taps real hard
on the crocodile's head that closes it's beak real fast but stops at a few millimeters from his willy.
The man puts his willy back in his pants, turns to the crowd and smiles triumphantly and asks the question :
"Anyone else likes to try?"

After a short but deadly silence Dave the Haligonian(*) slowely emerges from the crowd :

"I wanna try ! But please don't tap so hard on my head !"

(*) Used to read as 'an old lady', but Dave wanted me to change it into Artie, whahahaha !

I was watching the sky from my appartment and it sure seem to be devolping for the better, half hour before
this I urged my wife and kids to get dressed or I would to this trip on my own.
We got in the car and arrived there just in time to get a few gorgeous snaps ( more to follow ).

This is the canal towards 'Het Zennegat' where a canal and 2 rivers flow together.

° Vertorama stitching with my predefined action ( see above for the tutorial ).
° Shadows and highlights.
° Deepening the blues by applying extra saturation and lowering the lightness.
° A tiny bit of highlight doging and saturation sponging on the ice.
° A small colour balance towards yellow and red.
° High pass sharpening ( see here for explanation ).
