UK - England - East Sussex - Birling Gap - Sunset at Seven Sisters Chalk Cliffs

The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They form part of the South Downs in East Sussex, between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne in southern England. They are within the Seven Sisters Country Park. They are the remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea.

I had a chance to try various Canon gear in recent weeks. This shot is taken with the new 6D which is lovely full frame with GPS and WIFI... any travel photographer's dream.

UK - Scotland - Isle of Skye - Evening at Elgol during low tide

The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.

Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church

Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.

There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

Morocco - Merzouga Sand Dunes - Man in Blue & His Camels

Desert has always been my passion, I love to play with its shadows, shapes and views it offers. Morocco has something additional to that - man in blue ! :-) I just love the contrast of the deep orange color of the sand and the bright blue color of the traditional local dress....

Singapore - Financial District Reflected during Blue Hour / Twilight / Dusk

Marina Bay is a bay near Central Area in the southern part of Singapore, and lies to the east of the Downtown Core. Marina Bay is set to be a 24/7 destination with endless opportunities for people to “explore new living and lifestyle options, exchange new ideas and information for business, and be entertained by rich leisure and cultural experiences”. It is here where the most innovative facilities and infrastructure take place.

Classic view of Singapore which I was still missing in my portfolio from previous trips, therefore I could not miss it this time. I put 3 day time options (sunset, early morning and dusk) of this view on my FB page to see which time of day was the favorite. This blue hour was the most appreciated, so I post it here on Flickr for better viewing (FB terribly decreases the quality of photos).

Morocco - Merzouga Sand - Erg Chebbi Dunes - Shadows of the Caravan

The dunes of Erg Chebbi are a magical destination, full of magnetism and mystery with easy access for all travelers. If you want to visit Morocco, this jewel of the Sahara is a place not to be missed. The Dunes of Erg Chebbi are a unique natural spectacle, where giant sand dunes stand up in the middle of the dark volcanic cobalt plateaus of Sahara Desert.

The legend of Erg Chebbi / Merzouga tells that the largest sand dunes in Morocco appeared as a punishment from God to wealthy families who refused to accept a poor woman with her son at a party while they were washing hands with milk and playing with balls of couscous. These people were then buried by sand storms and strong winds that formed large dunes with the highest measure of around 160 meters above sea level.

Czech Republic - Prague - Praha - Sunrise at Charles Bridge - Karlův most

The Charles Bridge - Karlův most - is a famous historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava (Moldau) until 1841, the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and adjacent areas. This "solid-land" connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge (Kamenný most) or the Prague Bridge (Pražský most) but has been the "Charles Bridge" since 1870.

One of the iconic photos from Prague, but to get it you have to get up early as usual. I thought we might be the only people there in the morning, however several other photographers were there as well, together with some small groups of foreigners (rather drunk) returning from the nearby dance club.

Singapore - Different View at City Skyline with Marina Bay Sands Hotel in the background

This view is a result of my photo research on Singapore. I dont think I would have ever found this place myself just wandering around, even the taxi driver thought I was crazy to come here as he believed the whole area is still under construction. He was right to bigger part, however this place is surely finished for some time. I really like the dynamic effect this oval shaped sturcture gives in nice balance to newly build Marina Bay Sands hotel.

DNA - The Helix Bridge, previously known as the Double Helix Bridge , is a pedestrian bridge linking Marina Centre with Marina South in the Marina Bay area in Singapore. It was officially opened on April 24, 2010 at 9 pm, however only half was opened due to ongoing construction at the Marina Bay Sands. It is located beside the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and is accompanied by a vehicular bridge, known as the Bayfront Bridge. There are two pairs of coloured letters c and g, a and t on the bridge which are lit up at night in red and green. They represent cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine, which are the four bases of DNA.

Belgium - Brussels - Dusk at Grand Place / Grote Markt - UNESCO World Heritage Site

"One of the most beautiful town squares in Europe, if not in the world", is a phrase often heard when visitors in Brussels try to describe the beauty of the central market square. French-speakers refer to it as the 'Grand-Place', whereas in Dutch it is called 'de grote Markt'. The tourists of the 20th century are not alone in their admiration . Archduchess Isabella, daughter of Filip II of Spain wrote about the square during her visit to Brussels on September the 5th 1599: " Never have I seen something so beautiful and exquisite as the town square of the city where the town hall rises up into the sky. The decoration of the houses is most remarkable ".

Nowadays, the Grand-Place is the main tourist attraction of the City of Brussels. All through the year it is visited by thousands who like to spend some time wandering around and admiring the beautiful buildings, or sitting down on one of the many terraces having a good Belgian beer. Concerts and musical happenings are organized all through the year on the square. The most famous events that take place here are the annual Ommegang (an historical procession at the beginning of July) and the biennial flower carpet.

Czech Republic - Dusk over Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and Vltava River in Prague/Praha

Prague Castle (Czech: Pražský hrad) is a castle in Prague where the Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept here. Prague Castle is one of the biggest castles in the world (according to Guinness Book of Records the biggest ancient castle) at about 570 meters in length and an average of about 130 meters wide.

The history of the castle stretches back to the 9th century (870). The first walled building was the church of Our Lady. The Basilica of Saint George and the Basilica of St. Vitus were founded in the first half of the 10th century. The first convent in Bohemia was founded in the castle, next to the church of St. George. A Romanesque palace was erected here during the 12th century. In the 14th century, under the reign of Charles IV the royal palace was rebuilt in Gothic style and the castle fortifications were strengthened. In place of rotunda and basilica of St. Vitus began building of a vast Gothic church, that have been completed almost six centuries later.

Bulgaria - Rila Monastery High in the Rila Mountains South of Sofia

The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery (Bulgarian: Рилски манастир, Rilski manastir) is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the northwestern Rila Mountains, 117 km (73 mi) south of the capital Sofia in the deep valley of the Rilska River at an elevation of 1,147 m (3,763 ft) above sea level. The monastery is named after the famous Bulgaria saint and hermit Ivan of Rila.

Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and it is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe as a whole. The monastery is depicted on the reverse of the Bulgarian 1 lev banknote, issued in 1999.

Yet another place I wondered how to capture it. I decided for very low angle, I was literally laying down on a spot with the most interesting stones. I really like how it adds point of interest and depth to the photo.

Germany - Dresden - Late Evening Reflection of Zwinger Palace

The Zwinger (Der Dresdner Zwinger) is a palace in Dresden and a major landmark of German baroque architecture. The location was formerly part of the Dresden fortress of which the outer wall is conserved. The name derives from the German word Zwinger (outer ward of a concentric castle); it was for the cannons that were placed between the outer wall and the major wall. The Zwinger was not enclosed until the neoclassical building by Gottfried Semper called the Semper wing was built to host the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister art gallery.

I looked forward to visit Dresden as it is very lovely place, unfortunately many people know that and therefore it is full of tourist as well as photographers. Zwinger Palace is surely one of the most photographed place and probably was captured from all possible angles. I have spend there over 2 hours late evening trying to come up with my angle. This is one of my favorite shots which I have not seen in anywhere else.

Slovak Republic - Dusk Over Bratislava Castle from Banks of Danube River

Bratislava (German: Pressburg (Preßburg), Hungarian: Pozsony) is the capital of the Slovak Republic and, with a population of about 429,000, also the country's largest city. Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia on both banks of the Danube River. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries, Bratislava and Vienna are the two European national capitals which is one of the closest to one another, at less than 60 kilometres (37 mi) apart.

Bratislava is the political, cultural, and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament, and the executive branch of the government. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and educational institutions. Many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions are also headquartered there.

Rain again had welcomed me in Bratislava.I did my usual scouting for location & found a great spot for blue hour,hoping that the rain will stop.It didnt, so I thought I just spend another evening holding umbrella above my camera, unfortunately even this wasnt possi...ble as wind was too strong & I nearly flew away with umbrella :-) I've found a new way though - park the car so I can open one window, set tripod inside of the car & shoot this way!!" There is something new to learn everyday !

Czech Republic - Kutna Hora - UNESCO Heritage Site - Dusk over St. Barbara's Church

Town of Kutná Hora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the most important buildings in the area are the Gothic, five-naved St. Barbara's Church, begun in 1388, and the Italian Court, formerly a royal residence and mint, which was built at the end of the 13th century. Kutná Hora developed as a result of the exploitation of the silver mines. In the 14th century it became a royal city endowed with monuments that symbolized its prosperity. The Church of St Barbara, a jewel of the late Gothic period. The Gothic Stone Haus, which since 1902 has served as a museum, contains one of the richest archives in the country.

St. Barbara's Church (often incorrectly St. Barbara's Cathedral, Czech: Chrám svaté Barbory) in Kutná Hora is one of the most famous Gothic churches in central Europe and it is a UNESCO world heritage site. St Barbara is the patron saint of miners (among others), which was highly appropriate for a town whose wealth was based entirely upon its silver mines.

Czech Republic - Blue hour over Dancing House - Tančící dům in Prague/Praha

Prague is not always about the old, but also sometimes about the new as well - This is blue hour shot of the Dancing House, Czech: Tančící dům, in downtown Prague. It was designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in co-operation with Canadian architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront... plot (where the previous building had been destroyed during the Bombing of Prague in 1945). The building was designed in 1992 and completed in 1996.

The very non-traditional design was controversial at the time. Czech president Václav Havel, who lived for decades next to the site, had supported it, hoping that the building would become a center of cultural activity. Originally named Fred and Ginger (after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers - the house resembles a pair of dancers) the house stands out among the Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings for which Prague is famous. Others have nicknamed it "Drunk House".

UK - Scotland - Isle of Skye - Misty Evening at Elgol

The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.

Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church

Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.

There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).
